barrel for 22 cal rimfire
« on: October 25, 2003, 01:46:03 AM »
I am looking for a barrel to build up a 22 cal rimfire silhouette rifle.  There are several excellent barrel makers available.   On Pac-Nor's home page they list a 9 groove X 17" twist barrel.   I think that this may appeal to me.
But I am looking for some feed back and advice here.    Are there advantages to the 9 groove barrel ?  It looks like that the bullet would be more evenly engraved by the riflings, thus eliminating  a bullet that might be heavy on one side due to machining the barrel grooves.

What are your experiences with Pac-Nor 22 cal rimfire barrels.  They are priced about $ 200,  will the Pac-Nor barrels shoot well? Or should I pay an extra $ 100 and buy a Hart or Turbo, Or......?

PacNor has an excellant reputation for accuracy but for a competition gun there are others that I wouuld choose.  I have not used a PacNor 22 rimfire barrel but their centerfire tubes work very well indeed.  That said a good friebn who most certainly is an accuracy nut prefers the Shilens.  Perhaps the Kriegers should also get some of your consideration...  I'm certainly sorry as I seem to have only added to your dilema.  There is truly no provable answer as to which barrel is best..
