another deer neck roast convert
« on: December 17, 2009, 02:35:15 AM »
I always trimmed off neck meat for the grinder. I once made good soup from the neck. This week I took a neck roast and put it in the crock pot. 1/2 covered with water after seasoning it liberaly . Cooked for 5 hours and the thing just fell apart. I strained out the meat and bones and seperated- Put the meat now very tender on the cutting board and chopped fine added a cup of the juice from the crock pot and BBsauce to the meat and mixed well. MADE GREAT BARBACUE!! I am a convert . It was TOO easy and I never had so much meat from a neck. GOOD EATS!I could make 100 Tacos from the meat if I wanted to go a different route with it. The crock pot now gets all the necks!! TRY IT! J.Michael

I agree, the texture & flavor is wonderful.  ;) Too bad a deer only has one neck.

I hope there are giraffe hunters reading this :)
I did one neck roast with Italian Salad dressing, wasn't sure how it would turn out from the smell but tasted great.
I have used onion soup mix with pork and sauerkraut, quite good, a little pineapple in with you will make it palatable to those who don't like kraut. :)
