A lot depends on the barrel contour of the origianl gun. It can be done but to be sure of safety be certain it's done by someone reputeable. I prefer Make Orlen but have talked with him for some time. Briley does good work as does Simmons Gun Specialties (??). I believe the latter are in Olatha, KA. Going from 2 3/4 to a 5 inch is likely possible but to 3 1/2 is guite unlikely. Remember the only way to know for certain is to measure.. It requires special tools but with out them the snith is guessing.. a bad descision..

There are good gunsmiths in both NC. and Va that can lengthen chambers if they can be . Some of the old SXS guns have a chamber with the bbls sodered on stubs ( i think that is the term ) and you have to be careful of that . To send a gun to a big name company and pay for the work , insurance and shipping you may spend more than the guns are worth . Check local the last time i saw it done local it was 35 dollars for a 870 pump .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Shootall, I haven't found any Va smiths with a 3.5" reamer. I hate to buy one to do one shotgun. Any names?

Try Ashland Firearms service . They are a couple miles north of Green Top Sporting Goods on RT 1 . 804-798-1232 I know they do 23/4 to 3 . He also makes choke tubes in house .

I know where he is, I just didn't know he was ever open. Never met the fellow but KC Young didn't have much good to say about him. But then, there were a lot of people KC didn't like ;D

I'm going to the farm tomorrow so I'll give him a call after Christmas. Hopefully he has a 3'5 reamer. I got another Handi Ultra slug barrel last week that needs to be 3.5. The last one I bought was from Ed Hubel and he'd already rechambered it.

Thanks!
