Great barrel for re-bore and re-chamber
« on: December 16, 2009, 04:10:55 AM »
The 38-55 Target BC barrel...  28 inches... heavy/bull taper.

I know, what a waste of a good cartridge, but the bore lends itself to oversize bullets, mine does best with .380 dia bullets, just not that many bullet choices.  And the throat is a little tight.  On the other hand there are some good choices to go to.  405 Winchester (great), 40-65 Winchester, 41 Magnum, 414 Supermag, 10mm Auto (not sure) and I bet others here can come up with ideas.  Just saying a very good doner barrel.

Your right...I wished I had one to have re-done...Lots of grand old cartridges could be done up in them..Brass would be a problem for some though unfortunatly..One that would work for me besides a 405 Winchester would be a 444 Marlin..
