Stock?
« on: December 12, 2009, 09:57:55 AM »
I saw a .204 Ruger Ultra Varmint rifle for sale online. It had no picture, but the stock description read, "Handi-Grip Ambi Black Synthetic Thumbhole Stock". I'm not sure which stock they are referring to and wondered if anyone here could shed some light on it?
Thanks,
Don

It was on the H&R website for a while, but I don't see it now, anyway here's a couple pics.

EDIT: I found the original thread on it with the link.

Tim,
Thanks! I don't believe I've ever seen one of those stocks before.

Hey Big.  The guy that designed it didn't even think about the thumb.  He was thinking if he wanted to do away with himself, he could turn it around easier ???

I don't care for stocks with big holes in them....just another place for a branch to hang up.

It's ambidextrous and is practically a clone of the Remington SureShot stock which has been very successful according to Remington.  ;)

Production was scheduled for Nov/Dec 2009, the firearms are showing up on dealer lists, TGS has them listed now.

Also noticed TGS has the 35 Whelan listed with the Handi Grip stock. Does that mean we may see the 35 whelan once again.

If they ever bring that stock out I will get a few of them..I got the Remington thumb hole on my 870..and love it..It reduces recoil just like the one on the Optima Elites..and makes controlling them quite easy..While the looks are certainly better than any of the synthetics they have now IMHO..they aren't the prettiest for sure..and if they do see the light of day..the camouflage ones won't be far behind..Man I hope they put their G3 recoil pads on them..they are ever bit as good as the Decelerators or Limb Savers..BTW..I have had this stock for almost a year..I got it at Cabelas for Turkey season here..

The Whelen is scheduled for production in 2010 in both synthetic and wood stocks, that Whelen has a wood stock, I think it will be the new style monte carlo synthetic stock tho, same as on the SB1 357mag and 44mag.

Weight of that stock must be really low to have a 24" bull barreled Ultra Varmint end up at only 6lbs. Maybe a good choice for a lightweight .260?

Those weights are way off,  I just weighed my 24" 270 Win fluted bull barrel w/scope rail and frame at exactly 5½lbs, the synthetic Handi-Grip set will probably weigh about 1lb I imagine, the regular synthetic monte carlo set weighs 1lb-4oz.
