I do not have that tent. I do have the Alaskan Guide w/vestibule (6 person) however. I find it to be a very good quality tent. It is well constructed, roomy and easy to put up and take down. Were I wanting something more but not quite as much as a large wall tent I would look seriously at the Alaknak II as you can put a small stove in it also. Quality is there also. Your choice may not be a bad one though as you know your needs better than I and your selection should be based on that p,lus quality.

i'm looking at getting a new tent and am seriously considering th alaskan guide. who is it on packed wieght and how much space does in take up? i want to use it on a 5 day canoe trip on the may long weekend

Like I said, I have the 6 man Alaskan Guide with vestibule (along with the heavy duty aluminum poles) fit into a military duffle bag with room for extra stakes, cord, ground cloth, 10x12 tarp and a small axe. Of course the smaller models will weigh less and take up less space. The weights and sizes are listed in Cabella's catalog. The vestubule isn't necessary so I wouldn't heasitate to take mine on a trip you describe. The 6 man will give you plenty of room for two but the 4 man shouldn't be bad either. Mine is well made with quality material.

I have one and like it alot except for when the weather gets cold. It is very hard to heat and condesates very bad. The new ones have side vents under the windows, so I am assuming there were alot of complaints and they changed them. Good tent though!

We have had two of the Alaskan Guide tents. While they are excellent tents, both of ours blew apart in wind storms. If you decide to get one, be sure to get the aluminum poles if you camp where it is windy. When we were at Cabela's this spring, bringing back our second Guide tent, the lady that works there said that they had a tornado go through the area last year when they had all their tents set up for a display. The only one left standing in the morning was the Outfitter Series XWT.
