It is a CZ 527 Carbine barrelled action in 7.62x39. I removed the barrel and turned off the rear open sight base in a lathe and then reinstalled right back where it was [made witness marks before removing, as always]. The front sight is both glued and screwed [one] on and is easily removed. Then I fit the slimmed down barrel w/action into a CZ 527 American Sporter stock I had left over from another barrelled action 'switch'. This fancy walnut donor stock origionally came from the factory as a .221 FireBall. Most of the early release FireBalls had super nice select walnut stocks. Most of those might be gone now. My .221 got a Kevlar stock, then after a Montana gopher trip as a .221FB, I pulled the .221FB barrel and fit a PacNor Stainless Super Match 3 groove barrel and chambered it to 17 Mach IV, a minimal spec reamer being used-but that's another story.
ANYWAY, back to the CZ 7.62x39. The 'American Sporter' stock it is in now has a higher comb that is perfect for scope use. The origional Carbine stock has a lower comb meant to allow use of both the open sights or a scope.
Here is a picture of the small flat spot on my 7.62x39 barrel where 'most' of the rear open sight base was removed. Just a smidgen of the dovetail flat was left as it is not seen unless closely examined.
I don't think CZ offers the 7.62x39 in the American Sporter stock, so this little package is pretty neat in my opinion. While I had the barrel in the lathe I dialed in the bore to true and recrowned it.
I need to take another picture of it as it now has a Leupold 4X scope mounted and looks 'balanced', which it is!
