Sorry, Bill.  You don't usually see me on the water when air temps are below the 50's.  I'm too much of a whimp.

The exception was when I striper fished and trolled jigs, Redfins and Rattletraps.  I guess the other exception is trout fishing when I use Rapalas and various inline spinners.

Blessings!

Well being retired unlike lastyear instead of hugging the woodstove all fall/winter I want to stay fishing up to deer/bear season and after hunting is over too till the ice is on I hope to last.  Then ice fishing!!!!  I'm sure its going to be a long boring winter.                              BigBill

Bill,

You are much hardier than I and I'm 20 years from retirement!

I did have a thought.  Perhaps hiring an outfitter would be the way to go to learn how to fish in such weather.

I have a friend who fished the Niagara River this past January with an outfitter and simply had a blast.  They caught numerous beautiful rainbows.  The outfitter provided everything including warm survival suits.  Using an outfitter might just be the ticket on learning how to fish safely and effectively in low temps.

Good fishing and God bless!

My favorite is a Florida wild shiner.  When it gets cold, I like to run about 1300 miles south and try the Big O.  Other than that, I'm trying to figure out the float and fly.

well you can jest shoot me cause i'm goin to salt water and i no this aint no saltwater forum. still tha thought remains tha same. when it gets that cold--now i'm talking the gulf coast where that water temperature is still in or near tha 50's year round- i'm still wading- but i hardly will throw anything other than a mullet type lure--preferrable a sinking mirrow-lure. occasionally a spoon. fishing shallow-throwing to tha bank and dragging it off real slow. fishing tha sunny side of tha sand after it's had time to warm some.
