H&R CR38-55 (Target Classic) Scope Base?
« on: November 24, 2009, 06:46:38 AM »
I can't find which scope base for my H&R 38-55 (like the buffalo classic...only not).  Took off the williams apt. sight by removing those two screws...there was one more hole in front of the more forward of those two mounting screws that was factory plugged (for a total of three D/T holes).   Went to Midway USA & couldn't find my model listed.  Ideas on the proper base?  Just want to mount a scope to test some different loads....Thanks...love that little gun....Scott

It uses the standard Handi scope base. Before you mount it make sure the thread locking compound is cleaned out of the holes. When I mounted the Williams sight on my BC the holes were plugged full of the stuff.

See all the info in the FAQs on scope bases, there are numerous bases and ring mounts available, most will be mail order/online tho unless your dealer will order one for you, the H&R base is the most popular, the Leupold is almost as good, but a little shorter, stay away from the Weaver #82 if you can, even tho it's commonly available locally, the 1" flat spot at the rear doesn't make for good scope mounting usually, it's best to have the rear ring as far to the rear as possible.  ;)
