Mounts for Napoleons

Hi, I recieved a 14.5" Napoleon yesterday and was wondering what carriages (if any) besides the usual field piece are appropriate to use with this type of barrel.

Hi Terry, I found your thread yesterday and was so impressed that I shamelessly copied your design in black walnut.  Will finish it up this week and hopefully post a picture or two.  The barrel I recieved was  Stainless and looks identical , did you paint yours ?  Was considering trying a "brass" paint but don't know how well it would adhere to SS.  Regards, LS

It won't adhere very well.  Use a metal primer paint first, follow instructions about cleaning the metal first.

You should please yourself and not worry about others' tastes.

That said, I have to disagree with Dan: to my eyes, a Napoleon in a naval carriage definitely looks wrong.

I went with the Marsilly style for my Napoleon because the guns often typically on them, Parrotts and Dahlgrens, more closely resemble field artillery than any of the 'traditional' naval guns you are apt to see on four-wheeled mounts.



Besides, the main requirement of the carriage was to make the best use of the two old iron wheels, which have immeasurable sentimental value.
