Holster cleaning and treatment?
« on: November 19, 2009, 02:36:28 PM »
Just got some holsters for a Python and a Woodsman. The Python holster is NOS, the Woodsman holster has a design tooled  on it but it's old and needs a cleaning.

I would imagine holsters should keep their shape so what can I use to clean and treat them to keep them from drying out, without softening them?

thanks, Rob

I use saddle soap, then Snoseal.  The leather is thick enough to hold its shape.  Of course, I made the holster myself.  Soaked it in water, then stuck the pistol in a plastic bag and in the holster, let the leather dry to shape around the gun.  Oiled it up with neatsfoot oil and finished with the Snowseal for waterproofing.

You can clean it with stuff you probably already have around the house.  A little bit of Murphy's Oil Soap in some warm water to clean it and then when its dry oil it with some ordinary vegetable oil.  Make sure its 100% vegetable oil and you should be good to go.
