Remington's newest entry in the AR biness

Just got a new American rifleman magazine and low and behold a Remington add appeared for a new R15 in 30 caliber Remington. Supposedly compares to the 308. I was wondering why the r 25 that I ordered last year finally came in and why all of a sudden I have seen several on gun racks in the "big" stores lately. They have a new competitor!

I've seen those as well.  Personally for me I'd still go .308.  The lack of long-range trajectory is enough to turn me off.  But if you look even closer at the advertised ballistics you are giving up an average of 800-900fps muzzle velocity with the same 125gr bullet when compared to a .308.  That on top of the 30 Remington AR losing 500-700 ft/lbs of energy at 200yds when compared to a typical 165gr hunting bullet in a .308 puts the icing on the cake.

Comparrable to the 6.8 Remington SPC though.

Great advertising gimmick, but IMO unless you have to be the kid on the block with the shiny new toy, you can do much better with easier to find brass/ammo.

My thoughts exactly!

I do have a new R25 in 308 and......... No, I cant justify it! But it shoots nice and  I really like it.

I comitted to buy it last year and well Go figger!

You definitely picked the better rig IMO.  Go put a scope on it now.

If you want a long range heavy-hitter in a AR-15 (R-15) platform, go with the 6.5 Grendel (but of course you can't get that in a Remmy without switching uppers or at minimum barrel and bolt).  But if you like the AR-30 (R-25) platform, the .308 would be the way to go.
