Just acquired a BC.  The previous owner did extensive load testing and developed a load using 53 gr. IMR3031 and Horn. 350FP's.  I purchased some Leverevolution factory loads for deer hunting this year (no dies or components yet).  Can I duplicate the 3031 load in the shorter revolution case w/o causing dangerous pressures?  BTW I shot this sweety last week with the rev. to get ready for deer.  WOW! Filled the butt with a foam spacer, then # 8 shot, and another spacer.  Balances great.  Added a sling from Track of the Wolf and a Uncle Mikes shell holder.  She just kisses you sweetly when you tickle the trigger.  I am going to really enjoy this baby.

Randy ,

 Glad to hear your BC is making you smile... As far as the reloading lever revo brass , I chose not to even mess with the stuff that my brother unloaded on me after a range session .. Though now that Hornady is letting those flex tip bullets to get to market , you have the option of reloading those in the shorter brass .... Maybe one of the other guys have experimented with other projectiles in that case and will chime in..

 Staying to the safe side , Check the reloading sell page in these forums and keep your eyes open , I let loose of dies brass and 350gr hornady / 405gr remington bullets yesterday ( they didnt last long heh)  But with proper lengthed brass you can remove any doubts ..

Pardon my ignorance, but why not reload the Hornady cases? I reloaded mine with a medium rate charge and sierra 300grs, yet to shoot them though. Had a bear of a time getting the damn things to seat straight. What gives?

I talked with a Hornady tech (after being on hold forever) about their 45-70 brass a few weeks ago and he said they are fine to reload.  Because of the slightly shorter case, he said they operate at a little higher pressure than what is published load data for regular length cases. 

I opted to trade mine for brass of another caliber since I have so many Remington and Winchester cases and I'm too lazy to adjust my dies.

 I also traded the Hornady brass for other cals due to the extensive amount of Remington ,Federal , and WInchester brass I own .
    I load 53 Grs of 3031 with the 350 bullets too in my H&R   I load 55 grains  in mY Marlin  and 75 Sharps . I load  53 with the 400 or 405 bullets  in the Marlin and shaprs too b ut down load that to 52 in the H&R . I woud go  AT LEAST one or two grains lower to start in the short Brass .
 I also  got to lazy to keep readjusting dies for all my 45/70s ( 7 ) and now own three sets of dies   :D

Short, fat bullets aren't easy to seat without some runout, I use my Lee Loader to start the bullets, keeps runout less than .003" using the Hornady New Dimension seater which works well on pointy bullets too.

You're worse than me! :D I'm about to order a second set of .357 dies for the same reason.  Not to hijack the thread, but are you seeing unburned powder using the 3031?
