G2 SSK 6.5JDJ Gets New Wood
« on: November 08, 2009, 09:50:27 AM »
I've tried a lot of grip styles over the years and have finally found one that fits my needs. Thumbrest grips just don't work for my shooting. On this particular grip I give it a wide heel to sit the bag. Rounded back edge so hopefully under recoil it will slide and not dig in. I don't think the wide heel will be a factor in the field hunting. Flared top for a little cool look. Forearm mounted with a Bullberry forearm.

About the pistol, SSK 14" 6.5JDJ full lenght rib, Burris 2X7 scope, 3 Burris rings, trigger job by myself.

Very clean looking handgun you have there David.  I like what you did with the rounded grip, how's it work on the bag?

How does it shoot and what do you plan on hunting with it?  Always thought I'd like one of the 6.5JDJ's.

The rounded heel on the grip works very well on a hard bag for my shooting.

Accuracy from this one is very good, recoil light with 120gr. B-Tips. I will some day hunt deer with it. I have a 20" tube on a Tender Rifle I have killed deer with. Amazing how effective this small cartridge is from the rifle and I expect no different from the pistol.

This season my MGM 14" 357Max. and MGM 13" 30-30IMP. will see most my action. Next season I will probably switch up with a couple 6.5cals. My Encore MGM 16" 6.5x284WIN. and the 14" SSK 6.5JDJ.

Beautiful pistol Dave!  The 6.5JDJ has been my #1 barrel for a lotta years now(it pretty well put my 30Herrett into retirement).  I like the 120BT's but I can't quit using those old 120 Speer SP's......they just make'm DRT!  I've been thinking about getting a companion carbine barrel for years...what kind of velocity are you getting?
Doesn't really matter, I don't see how it could kill'm deader than the 14" barrel does.
