New Savage 24C-DL .22/.410
« on: November 07, 2009, 12:43:33 PM »
I just picked up a really nice Savage 24C - DL in .22/.410 today for a very reasonable price.  The stock may have been refinished, but maybe not.  The metal is excellent, and there is a bit of wear on the trigger guard finish.  I put a Leupold 2X EER scope on it with Weaver Quad rings.  I can't wait until I get to try it out.

Those things are great! My first gun was .22/410 Savage and I still squirrel hunt with it. I wish I'd kept count of how much meat it's put on the table since Dad got it for me in '66.
I like the design enough that I bought a .22mag/20 for a truck gun. Congrats on your new gun!  :)

The .22 barrel shoots great.  I put a Simmons 2-7x scope on it and test fired/sighted in at 50 yd.  Several <1/2" groups with Rem. Target and Rem HP's.  It's sighted in with Winchester Super-X's, and the rem Target shoots about 3/4" under it.  This is the first rifle that shoots Aguila .22-SST well, but  about 3" low and 1-1/2" left.  The shotgun barrel shoots a bit low and left.

This one puts me at 5 total:
.22/.410
.22/20 ga.
.22 Mag./20 ga.
.223/20 ga.
.30-30/20 ga.

I bought a Savage 30-30/20 ga back in the early 70's for $89.95. Traded it off forever ago. Wonder what it would be worth now. Be nice if Savage would make another run of 223/20, 30-30/20 and 357 mag/20.

$450 and up if it is in good condition.  I have seen them priced at $600 at gun shows, but they go home with the dealer at that price!

I doubt that Savage will make them again.  They have stopped making the newer, heavy framed models a year or so ago.  I think that they didn't sell well enough and had to be priced too high to sell well.
