Browning A Bolt II help
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:13:36 AM »
Need advice from Browning Guru's.  I bought a Browning A Bolt II Hunt NS7mm-08 with 22" barrel last year, put a scope on it JB''d the barrel, sighted it in.  Took it hunting once, I also bought a H&R 45-70 SS Ultra Hunter with Laminated thumbhole stock that I enjoyed hunting with so much the Browning got left in the safe.  This year I got the Browning out to sight in and get ready for opening day.  I put it in the Lead sled and when I pulled the trigger it didn't fire.  I looked up at my hunting partner and said "It didn't fire".  I tried to put it back on safe and open the bolt.  It wouldn't do either.  Then the gun went off.  I opened the bolt removed spent cartridge, removed the rest of the shells in the magazine to inspect it.  I tried to work bolt and it wouldn't stay cocked when the bolt went in.  After playing around with the safety with the bolt open I discovered could slide bolt in and it would stay cocked.  I dry fired and worked bolt still wouldn't stay cocked unless I worked the safety with the bolt open.  I took gun completely apart and cleaned thoroughly.  Put back together and it worked.  Let sit over night and it wouldn't work.  Took it apart again and recleaned the trigger group with solvent, blew out with air.  Seems to be the safety sticking.  There was a whit substance under the safety looked like white grease solidified.  I took gun to gunsmith  he said he'd never seen anything like that before.  ( if I sent it back to Browning it would be down all season)(Talked to Browning service today and they confirmed it would probably be down all season).  If gunsmith can't fix I'll  send it back as it is unsafe and useless as is.  Has anyone had this experiencebefore?  Suggestions?  I din't take the trigger group apart, as I was afraid too go into it that far.  I did have a thought that maybe some of the JB (white substance might be dried JB) got down in there but don't understand why it didn't show up as a problem last year if that was the case.

Thanks
Jack

Well I guess I'll answer my own question.  Gunsmith said the trigger adjustment screw was broken.  It's suppose to be fixed now.  I hope this one lasts longer than 30 rounds.

Thanks
Jack
