11-87 / Hastings barrel won't eject slugs. ?????
« on: October 27, 2009, 05:21:32 AM »
I have a Remington 11-87 light contour shotgun with a Hastings cantilever slug barrel on it.  It is very accurate, but the spent shells will not eject.  Is this a common problem?  Is it the barrel?  The gun?  Or a combination of both?  Thanks for your replies.

Have you tried a couple shot shells the same length? Shouldn't have anything to do w/the barrel. Are you sure it was reassembled correctly?

I'm pretty sure I put it back together ok.  The rubber ring is a bit stretched out.  I have a new one ordered.
I'll try shooting a shotshell out of it.

Hastings says their 11-87 barrels might not eject 2 3/4 inch loads.   I don't know if it the same way on the Light Contour models.

I had some Federal 00 Buckshot not eject on my 11-87 slug barrel.   They shot fine but I had to manually eject them.

If your barrel reads "... 2 3/4" shells... the 3' shells won't eject.

Mine is both 2 3/4" and 3".   I believe Hastings barrels are the same way.

I have the exact same setup, light contour and all.

Make sure you follow the Hasting assembly instructions. There is one piece of the Remington assembly that you remove for this barrel. ( I think it is the barrel seal/activator )

Also Hasting notes that 2 3/4" shells may not eject. I have shot nothing but 3" shells in mine.

One final note, make sure you thoroughly disassemble and clean the gun to free up the action as much as possible.

Hope this helps....
