Magazine issues????
« on: October 25, 2009, 01:13:52 PM »
Hi All,

Could use some advise....I just picked up a model 93R17 BV (17HMR) and shot it today and was very impressed with the groups at 100 yards thank-you very much.  After firing maybe three or four magazines worth of three shots, I loaded the supplied mag with 5 rounds and inserted it into the well and all of the rounds came flying out.  That was wierd says I!  So I remove the mag and try again and this time the mag didn't even make it into the rifle before all five rounds catapaulted out.  I bent the feed lips back on the edge of the bench and all seems ok...but if it happened once I suspect it'll happen again.

Do you folks have or have had this problem and what did you do about it, or, is there a better after market mag that I don't know about????

Thanks!!

I haven't had that problem with them.  Both the one that came with the rifle and the second one I got wouldn't feed.  The point of the vmax would hit too low and not chamber.  I had to open up the lips just a bit to let the cartridge feed from a higher position.  I love savage rifles just hate their detachable box magazine on the 12s and the little mags for the 93s.

Thanks Leather....shot it today and it happened again...with VMax .17s.  I just bent the lips back in the edge of the bench...shouldn't have to do that......

drdoug go take a look at rimfire central in the savage section there. i am sure you will find a tweak there that will get your situation under control. i don't normally recommend other forums but there is just so much info on that forum that it is a shame to pass it up. i stay here for 98% of my shooting research. rimfire central is just so rimfire centric that it is a valuable tool. hope this helps. take care and have fun shooting!
