sb2 starts with nm
« on: October 22, 2009, 10:46:21 AM »
my serial number start with nm and then a set of numbers and according to the f.a.q. my rifle cannot be fitted with other barrels. i call h@r to see why this was and they told me i could fit it with any rifle or shotgun frame. let me just say im confused and i am not callin anybodys info out about this. i called today and the office was closed for some reason. i am goin to call once more to be sure. i am not a handi expert or claim to be but they r some here that are. if i could use this frame it would help me out and probally some other people on here to who have them. i will try to call them tomorrow to verify this because i dont want to start any false info.

You're not the first to get inaccurate info from Madison CS, unless they've changed their policy in the last month which I'm checking on right now, they will not fit any rifle barrels to '96-'99 SB2 frames, we first learned that from a member that sent his frame in for a 45-70 barrel which they wouldn't fit, I have confirmed that policy with an H&R representative that I've been working with for over 2yrs now, I haven't got any details as yet if they'll fit any barrels to those frames, shotgun or rifle, but since the 45-70 is a low pressure barrel (it's not marked with an asterisk *) there's not much chance they'll fit anything but possibly a 357 or 44mag barrel to them or shotgun barrels, but that's just a guess on my part.

So, in 2008 Gardner would fit a 1999 but not a 1998, and now Ilion won't fit a 1999 but will fit a 2000?

That's bad news, as at least two of my frames are NN = 1999, including the frame that I sent to Gardner just before they closed. I verified the serial numbers before I bought them, but that was seven years ago and apparently the situation has changed on me.

Like I said, I haven't got any definitive policy on what barrels they'll fit to '96-'99 frames, but since they'll fit 357 and 44mags to SB1s, it would make sense they "should" fit them to those outsourced SB2 frames, but I haven't got that info back yet, still waiting. For all we know, CS is telling us one thing and Ilion is doing something else, but I sure hope that's not the case!!  ::)

It was my frame they would not fit the 45-70 barrel to. I bought a barrel off here and fit it myself. Works like a champ. Just got back from Colorado and thats the rifle I took.
