The Law
« on: October 21, 2009, 06:13:54 AM »
I recently read a very interesting little book by Federick Bastiat, "The Law", written in 1850.

Four basic concepts are:
1. The law (government) cannot give to some but only that which it first takes from others.
2. If we did the same it would be criminal.
3. When the law takes from some and gives it to others, it always keeps some for itself, and society as a whole is that much poorer.
4. This is socialism.

I found the book intriguing and well defended. You can read it here:

The sole purpose of government is to protect your liberty. The Constitution is not to restrict the people, but to restrict government.  Ron Paul

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson

Funny thing about the earlier scholars, they seem much smarter than the folk now that seem to know everything.

People just need to understand that everything has been tried, there aint no new stuff out there and WE HAD the best system going................wasn't it grand!!

The real problem is that the people in the inner cities think this is a good idea because they are on the receiving end and have no intention of even accidently supporting themself but they can and do vote the people in who take your money to give to them minus the 50% handling fee. The large metro areas carry the states for the dems.
the nation that forgets it defenders will itself be forgotten

And so they become slaves to those they are beholding too, not the ones that it was plundered from, but the plunderers themself.  As society becomes poorer, so do the poor. It is a system which cannot stand. When the parasites overcome their hosts, then they both die.
