I have read in another post that the cylinder pins in the Blackhawk's can give people trouble when loading on the hot side. The post didn't say what kind of troubles though. The problem I am having is the cylinder seems to bind when loading the gun and removing the cases. I was wondering if this could be a problem dealing with the cylinder pin and could be fixed with a new (after market) pin?

Camel, I've been shooting Rugers for 43 years and have yet to have a pin back out on me. The trouble with your cylinder binding could be that you need to pull back on the loading gate before rotating it- this happened to me with a 357 blackhawk once. Problem never went away, I just got used to it. Pat

If you shoot heavy loads they will back out at least on about half the production guns. Belt mountain pins are a good deal they not only take care of that problem but tighten your gun up too. If the pin backs out even a little it will cause rough rotation. You may have a bur somewhere on you pin or in your cyl. first try takeing the pin out and cleaning it and the hole in the cyl maybe even polish it with some emery another problem can be primers that are not seated all the way or cases that are not seated in the chambers all the way. Make sure your chambers are clean and you give every bullet a good push in.

Belt Mountain is the pin you are thinking about. They have lots of choice and over sized pins Good stuff

I was working up some 180 grain bullet loads with Alliant 2400 powder in a Ruger Blackhawk Stainless with red dot scope on Sunday. I started at below the "max" powder level recommended by Alliant and finished up just over the max load. The pin backed out slightly twice while I was firing my 18 rounds of ammo of various hot but not extreme loads. It isn't a big deal as on mine, you just push the pin back in and everything is just fine.

I do like to check it periodically when I am shooting loads of the true magnum class.

I have looked at the websites for the replacement pins, but it hasn't been enough of a problem, that I have gotten around to order one, yet. From what I have read the pins, may require a bit of minor fitting.
