Anyone own or shot a Blaser R 93.  I have been looking at them for several years, but never shot one.

SHW,

The Blaser R 93 is considered by many to be one of the finest firearms made today, BUT with the recall hanging over them, check out this web site http://www.blaser.de/r93check/announcement-e.html, I can't bring myself to trust them yet.  Lawdog

I was familiar with the recall & I see it in two different lights.  First how/why were the pins used, but secondly I respect a company that is willing to admit & correct mistakes & then give a 10 year warranty.

I want to try one, but would like to hear some actual experiences in the accuracy & overall performanceof the rifle.  I am considering the synthetic model, which is the cheapest.  THANKS

Oddly enough, several people have them here in Miami of all places.   That's because they generally use them for Africa where they can install different barrels (one of the benefits of the R93).

I have shot 2 of them.  One was a synthetic stock - like the one that you want, and the other was a very beautiful wood version.  The synthetic version was a 300 Win Mag, and the wood version was a 300 WSM.

The ammo for both guns was Federal Premium 180 grain Trophy Bonded.  I only shot 1 shot for each gun (since the ammo was expensive and I didn't want the owners to be upset with me.)  All I can say is that the bullets went exactly where I aimed at when the barrel was fairly warm.

Let me tell you that the synthetic stocks on the R93 are the best factory stocks in the world.  From what I understand, Blaser has a very special process that gives them incredible strength and resistance to the elements.

As for working the bolt - it's kinda weird in that all you have to do is pull it back.  It's therefore faster than a regular bolt action, but I'm so used to pulling AND TURNING a bolt, that just pulling it seems unusual.

Zachary,

Just curious why you do not have one.  Is there any thing that you really disliked about the rifle.  How do you feel about  the bolt locking system & the safety system of cocking the bolt.  I can't find one here in the Memphis area at all, the closest place that stocks the R93 is in Dallas for me.  A hour & fifteen minute flight from home.  Thanks for the info.

There are a few reasons why I haven't bought a R93 yet, and none of the reasons have to do with the gun intself.  The reasons are essentially because I virtually have most of the calibers now (about 16 or so), and really am not too hot about duplicating (even though I have done so on a couple of guns, like I have two .308, two 7mm Rem Mags, and two 300 Win. Mags.  Another reason is that I really like stainless guns and Blaser doesn't currently offer any.

The other reason is that I am just so darn busy with work that all of my gun "accumulating" has been put on hold.  My focus for at least the next few months will be on making money, not spending it. :)    In fact, I spend a lot of time on this site and the auction sites.  But I'm so busy right now that I don't view gunbroker and auction arms so that I can still do my job here as a moderator. That's really all the time I have for.

I have two R93's, the synthetic and the LX.  The LX wood is so nice I'm afraid I will scratch it.  The synthetic is a true work horse...can't hurt it.  I am on my fourth barrel.  I just like being able to change barrels for the conditions at hand.  I have used a 7 mag for hunting muledeer in Montana.  I've used a 338 Mag for elk in New Mexico.  I've used the 22-250 for varmits and I am going to use the 7-08 this year for whitetail.  It's definitely not cheaper than buying individual guns but when you see what they did, it makes you wonder why someone hasn't done this years ago.  It breaks down easily and very compact for travelling and has a wonderful trigger.

I sent mine back already for the trigger recall.  I wasn't happy about sending it back but I remember when I got a glock pistol I had to send it back also.  Seems like the higher quality firearms let you know when their might be a problem and are happy to fix it.  I like them but they are definitely not for everyone.  Try to shoot one and see if it's right for you.

I am in the Memphis area & can't find a Blaser R93 anywhere.  Several dealers are willing to order one, but none stock them.  The closest stocking dealer that I have found is in Dallas.  I would really like to shot one before I spend that kind of money.

Does McBrides in Austin stock Blasers?  Also how do you feel about/like the safety sytem on the bolt. THANKS

SHW,

McBrides does stock them!  That's where both of mine came from.  The safety was just OK until I learned you actually de-cock the firing pin when you take the safety off and vice versa.  When you take the safety off you are recocking the firing pin.  It's designed for your thumb to operate the safety.  Because you are cocking the spring it is a little stiffer than a conventional safety.  A 10-year old kid would have difficulty operating the safety (actually cocking the firing pin).  When someone asks to look at it and they can't figure out the safety they are finished handling my rifle!

There are some blaser dealers on gunbroker.com.  I have yet to see any great bargains.  I have bought two barrels from Candler Road gun shop in Goergia.  No tax that way and the barrels can be sent directly to you, no FFL required.

The entire rifle comes apart in two minutes and goes right back together in two minutes with no loss of accuracy.

I'm actually going to hunt elk with the synthetic 338 this weekend!

E-mail me with any questions.

First let me say THANKS to JHM.  He put me onto a dealer here in Arkansas that stocks Blasers.  We made a deal, & I now have a synthetic R93 in 7mm Rem mag.  Going to shot it tomorrow.  THANKS AGAIN JHM

I took the blaser to the range for the last two days.  It seems to like 150 grain swift scirocco's (Remington factory load) the best, of what I tested .  Best group was just under .75 at 100 yards.  The trigger is GREAT, by far the best trigger that I have ever used on a factory gun.   POI doesn't seem to change with barrel change either.  I tested Federal Premium 160 nosler partitions, 150 Federal Premium Nosler bal tips, Remington 150 grain accutips, 150 grain winchester power points, 139 Hornady custom interlocks, & winchester 150 grain bal silvertips.  It liked the Hornady & the sciroccos, both printing sub one inch groups.  I was suprised that the Winchester bal silvertips were almost two inch groups.  Testing was done over two days & involved about six and half hours at the range.  The thin barrel does heat up fast. I have decided not to reload for the 7mag.  I am also planning to test some Hornady 154 SST's & Hornady interbonds.

I am well pleased with  the gun,  my only two complaints are that  the stock feels to slick/smooth & the forearms seems somewhat narrow.  I am hunting whitetails this weekend with the blaser.  Hopefully I will have a good report.

Thanks again to everyone that responded, and for all the help.  Though it is early,  I am happy with the blaser.  I am planning to purchase a 22-250, 338 Win mag, & 375 H&H barrel in the future.  :-D
