Did you ever go fishing sort of dreading it.

I've got a t tonight on Norris, and its not looking good.  Weather is rainy and this time of year, that means fog.  I figure we'll be well fogged in by 30 minutes past dark.  It will be tough to move if you aren't on fish.

Skipper,

I don't fish tournaments but I could imagine dreading being forced to fish in poor weather due to a tournament.

Fortunately, most of my friends are fair weather fisherman who don't care to brave inclimate weather either so I get off easy.

Hey, I visited your website.  Nice work!

Blessings!

Yes sort of but in bad weather sometimes the trip and wet weather is worth it some have turned out to be the best days.  One day during the foggy/drizzle rain here I caught 19 bass in one spot.  I had extra dry shirts in the car and just stayed changing as I just soaked but it was worth it.                                                  BigBill

And for some reason I caught pink sunfish that day really big ones too over a  pound  size. My biggest bass was about 5lbs too.  I was using a Joesflies 1/4 oz. inline spinfly in firetiger apache and with a shot of yum shad scent.  I casted every direction from one spot and had fish on.  Now of course if its raining I go for sure no matter what.

Bill,

I've been catching northern pike on the Joe's flies.  Unfortunately, the hooks on the 1/4 ounce size seem to be inadequate.  I've lost as many fish as I have landed.  They just don't seem to be hooked well enough.  Have you had any problems hooking bass with them?  Any comments and/or advice?

Blessings!

I was intouch with the Joesflies manufacturer lastyear about my great success and making larger ones like 3/8 and  1/2 ounce sizes but he hasn't come out with them yet.  I asked for different colors in the 1/4oz bass size too like purple and blue and also a chartruese bucktail on the firetiger apache. But I haven't seen or heard anything yet. The only thing i could say is change the treble using a split ring to add a larger one on.  This has been an awesome bait for me on cloudy/rainy overcast days and in low light conditions too for bass and pickerel.  This colorado spoons shape must give off the perfect vibration.  I keep an extra box of his small ones too as well as the 1/4oz bass size too.   I hassled him about colors since different colors work at different parts of the country too.  I hope he makes them soon.                                                 BigBill

Have you tried his waterwolf series?? He has two sizes of them.  I have tried them too in freshwater but its hard to say some places i fish they just like the smaller baits. But it may work great for pike.  It says saltwater on the package on the larger one but it is big enough for pike too.  I'll have to go for northerns in the spring and try them again.  I have had success with Mepps #3 anglia silver/graytail and switched when the bite slowed down to a #4 or #5 and caught bigger fish which came in to see what the action was all about but wouldn't hit the smaller bait.  So my theory is "big bait big fish" sometimes!!!

Bill,

I've not heard of the waterwolf series and am glad to know that they exist.  Those don't seem to be in the stores around here.  Indeed, finding 1/4 ounce models is difficult enough though they can be had from time to time.   I'll need to do special ordering.  BTW, you got me into Joesflies when I read you posts a while back.  I'm grateful as they have been good producers.

Blessings!
