It's always a bad sign when a US president wins that prize. It is a political prize and it has nothing to do with peace. Remember that Yassir Arrafat won it too. That says much about the legitimacy of the prize.

I read an article on it. Reading between the lines, I'd say that he won as a backlash against Bush. His "extraordinary efforts" were being a sitting US president that gave a big military victory to the Russians, gave concessions to everyone that "negotiated" with him, and apologized for all of America's previous history. That and escalating the now purposeless war in Afghanistan.

Lech Walesa deserved the prize he won. Here's what he has to say:

"So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far. He is still at an early stage. He is only beginning to act," said former Polish President Lech Walesa, a 1983 Nobel Peace laureate.

"This is probably an encouragement for him to act. Let's see if he perseveres. Let's give him time to act," Walesa said.

Just a bunch of BS as far as I am concerned.
He has done nothing to deserve this.
If I had won one of these, and now they give him one I think I would return mine with a letter telling them why and what they could do with it!
Kind of cheapens the thrill of receiving such an honor.

Maybe they should tell the parents of the brave young soilders who have died what a great man he is and how he is doing all he can to promote peace in the world.
I am sure that would make all the difference in the world to them.

How could anyone even consider him as a recipient is beyond me.
He has done nothing to deserve such an honor---NOTHING!!!

I never thought I would ever say this but for once I agree with the nut case reveren Wright, G D america for ever electing such a piece of crap to run our country.
He has done such a fine job of doing it to.
RUNNING IT RIGHT IN THE GROUND!!!

AMERICA---- you wanted change, well YOU GOT IT!!!

I just hope there is a country left when it comes time to elect a new person to lead this country back to where we belong along with a new congress that is trully "OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE and FOR THE PEOPLE".

Sorry guys, I just had to vent and it does feel good!

Your reaction is typical of the reaction worldwide. Reporters gasped when his win was announced.

And this does further cheapen the award. But after Gore won it a couple of years ago it really could not be cheapened much more.

There have been some real questionable people in the past that got the Nobel Peace Prize.
Obama is as questionable as any, so to me the Nobel Peace Prize stop meaning anything years ago.
Actually, this could hurt him more than help him in many ways. I'm sure there are a few countries out there
that are getting a little irritated at this green horn getting so much attention, not just here, and the retoric never does add up
to reality.

When I was a kid I was in awe Nobel Peace Prize Winners being taught that this prize was for those that worked and dedicated their lives in the cause of peace.

As time went by I saw it habded out for various trivial things. Then when Yasser Arafat was given one jointly with Peres and Rabin for efforts to obtain peace I knew it was a farce. Arrafat who had invented the Hijacking of aircraft and blowing them up nothing more than a muderer that operated on the world stage.

Obama in 12 days in office wins for his accomplishments...you have to be kidding. Yes this brings the statue of the prize to a new low level but it would still be hard to get as low as they did with Arrafat.

The world has noticed that this unknown has risen to power from nowhere and has done absolutely nothing has cheapened those that were worthy of such recognition.

Sad day for the orginization itself, America and the World.

This prize does fit the fully emerged pattern of other countries manipulating US policy. The Russians got one of their biggest military victories ever without firing a shot when the European missile defense shield was scrapped. The North Koreans are back for more money. Kadaffi had not been heard from since his son was killed in a bombing raid and now he's more vehement against the US than ever. Iran tests their nuclear and missile capability with impunity. Etc. Etc. Etc. Now this. Why? to influence US policy making under Obama. They are simply flattering him and will be rewarded later.

These so called Nobel Laureate's that determine these winners must be blind. How can a man who has escalated the war conflict in Afghanistan, not lived up to his promise in the Iraq conflict and who's now saber rattling with Iran win a peace prize?
