Anyone got a NEF/H&R in 7mm-08
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:42:49 PM »
Seen one of these the other day, used to have a nice Browning BLR in 7mm-08.  Has anyone here owned shot and kept, or is this loaded with issues, such as cases sticking etc.

Thanks Jon

I have one but have yet to sight it in.
I have used this cartridge in other guns with great success, just not in a Handi, YET!!!
It's time is comming.

Great little cartridge, now have 4 7mm-08's.  Have had no issues with my Handi.  Only got about 30 rounds through it, but has been working perfect and groups of 1.5 in. so far with no work on it.  My BLR has taken several mule deer, need to blood the Handi this year but have to many that need to go out and play.  DP

I bought the 7mm08 in the youth model for my wife-she is really happy with it.  Very little recoil and shot MOA with Rem green right out of the box. She's very pleased with "her little gun"! :)

I had one, tried just about every factory load I could find and couldn't get better than a 3" group at 100 yards. mine sounds like the exception though. But i like 7mm so going to send frame in for a 280 barrel.

Bought 1 last year for my wife, took 15 rounds to knock the burrs out the barrel. After that it's a tack driver @ 100 yds. It seems to like Fusion 140gr just fine.

Got one in the Handi and its a good shooter. Only thing is that I feel the throat is a bit short, but it functions well other than that.  ;)

Well, I went in yesterday and put this on layaway.... now the scope which will possible be a Burris with balisticplex retical or a simalar scope.  Ah this is gonna get fun, as I can tell already  ::)

I still got time, and will have this out in a couple of weeks.

Now to find the makings for going over the bore.....

Now to also look at what additional barrels that I want to get now  :o

Tim

Tim this yesterday down in Missoula, I stopped into a gun store and of course they were trying to sway me on the new single shot that Remington has put out in .308 Win.  I looked at the guy and asked, Does Remington have a barrel program?   Ahh what you mean?  I then told him that H&R Handi Rifles can be changed out quickly and are very good rifles, my opinion.

Yes, Tim you might say that I have been bit once more, but will not be getting a BC model at all.  The extended barrel weight still works against my left shoulder from my surgery.  The 22" barrel models are much more condusive to what I'm wanting for prairie goats, mule deer and elk  ::)

And I'm sure I will get some prairie dog calibers as well  ;D

Right now I'm scope shopping for this new 7mm-08

Sounds like a good plan to me, congrats!!  ;)

You might consider a compromise on the BC like Don's 27" barrel or the 24" SS Ultra Hunter barrel.

Tim, I know you know that I have had my fair share of BC's in the past, and I do know where one is locally at $379.99 but.... I want some differant calibers for now.

Thanks
Jon

My pallet wood stocked Handi 7mm-08 works very well with its 3-9x50 Bushnell Banner.  Unfortunately, the poor gal is neglected.  I've got a hitch hiker disease to Handiholicism.  It's called Straightwallaphobia.  My .45-70 and pistol caliber Handis seem to get all my attention these days. ::)

Montanan, I'm a little late responding but I have a 7mm-08 Handi and it is a fine shooting rifle with handloads shooting just a hair under moa for a 3 shot group. Took its first deer last season. I have retired it to give it to my 3 year old son Joshua but wouldn't be a bit afraid to "un-retire" if I needed to.

Tim

After getting the JB Bore paste work done, and getting the barrel cleaned up I then headed up to my uncles place for the upper pasture.  He needed to sight in his Savage mod 99 again since he changed out his scope, and I need to get this ready for our general rifle season that starts on the 24th.

The bore sighting had me shooting at 5 0'Clock low, and at 28 yards. A few minor adjustments, and was right at 1" low dead center. Moved out to the 100 yard, and after a re-adjustment where I was shooting high and right, made my adjustment and grouped 1" at 100 yards.

Since useing factory Remington 140-gr core locks for the sight in, at $25.99 a box I think I will get some more money and do some more fine tuning... I mean shooting  ;D

Oh I love this little rifle.

Now for the reloading dies and all the other fine things to reload for it  ::)

I used a Caldwell Lead Sled to bench shoot, so if I do my part this hunting season my Handi Rifle should do its part  ;D
