45/.410 barrel choke tube and wrench photo
« on: October 07, 2009, 02:18:44 PM »
Had some questions what one of these looked like.  I tried to post pic in PM but I figured someone else may want to see also.  The wrench has a TC logo on it.  Thompson Center.

Those look like a choke tube and wrench for a Contender 45/410 barrel.   Is that what your asking?

CW,...actually they are from a 45/410 survivor barrel.  But I am pretty sure it is the same used on the contender and encore barrels.  Another member wanted to see what they looked like, so I snapped a pic to post.

I've got a .45/410 survivor, and had a TC in 45/410.  Both the chokes would interchange, both choke wrenches had TC on them.  Makes me wonder if TC made the barrels for HR.....lost

This is only a guess, but I would think the contender was out first.  H&R probably bought the chokes and wrenches from Thompson and threaded their barrels to work with them.  Thompson only offers these barrels in 15" and 12" I believe.  At least I have never seen them longer.  And the handis are 20" making them legal as a rifle.  Just my $.02 worth.

A 3/8"  Allen wrench will also fit the tubes if you do not have a t/c tool

TC also made the Choke & wrench for there .357 & 44 barrels. I have a TC .357 barrel that is a tapered octagon 8" barrel with the external choke. TC made a special shot package for both, so the user could reload .357 or 44 shot shells. I still have a box of 50 W/ 1/2 oz of #6 shot. In the configuration the choke is a cutter to open the shot package which was seated like a bullet and proturded about a 1/2"-5/8" out of the case mouth. The choke also stops the shot from spinning giving a better shot string pattern.

My TC barrel was made in the early to mid-1970's.
