Give it some time. After a while you'll wonder why you ever smoked in the first place.

I'm going on two years now.

Or is it three?

Can't remember.  I don't think time started again since I smoked my last cigarette.

My father in law recently died of lung cancer. He smoked 3 to 4 packs of Camel no filters every day for like 45+ years. Horrible and painful death not just for him, but for all of us having to see him go through it. Seeing one of these deaths close up and its impacts on him and his immediate family is enough to confirm for me the pure evil of tobacco.

i just went thought this!!!! i took chantex for 3 weeks.at first it hard but it does get easier as time goes by. you must have a great support group. i called some of them at 1:00am some days. find something to take the place of smoking like reading or anything you like to do. i scuba dive and i noticed i use a lot less air then i use to so that is one plus. another reason to quit is how you smell!!! now if a smoker come up to me i can smell the cig. smoke on their clothes and it stinks. use gum or anything just do not smoke.        p.s. there is a stop smoking meter on the net. you can book mark it and it will help you keep up with how much you have not smoked. kinda fun. one day at a time, just say no, break the habit.

Thankfully I never got started. I do hunt with guys that do. The mountains kick their butts. Will be gasping for air on medium hills. I guess inspiration could be your family, being there for them longer. Also being able to do what you want physically either now or down the road.
Good luck.

Try some snuff, it gets the nicotine into your blood stream right away. Smoking is easy to quit by chewing snuff. Just kidding, you don't want to start chewing snuff. Its a bad habit, and Its harder to quit than cigarettes. It was for me any way.

I quit years ago, not easy. I ate sandwiches and candy when I got the urge to smoke. I gained 20 pounds, but that is better then smoking. Coffee and alcohol should be avoided or reduced in consumption, just my experience. Good luck.

I quit 2+ yrs ago now. I used chantix and didn't quite follow the plan but was able to quit within the 12 week time period about 6 weeks into the program i smoked the last one and haven't had one since cravings are still there probably mostly cause wife still smokes but i can now fight the cravings. It will be the best thing you will ever do when you accomplish this goal. You can always think about the cash aspect to cause I smoked 2 packs a day which at current prices was about $10 day cause i smoked name brand smokes. So, I saved $300 in first 30 days if i would have been able to spend it could have bought new rifle. Whatever it takes to motivate you to quit use it and quit you truly won't regret it.

Go cold turkey. I did about 13 years ago. Last couple of years that I smoked, I smoked cigars, and didn't inhale. So it might have been easier to quit. Don't miss cigarette's at all, but a good smelling cigar gets my nose a twitching.  gypsyman

I really don't think a person can quit until they make up their mind they are going to do it come hell or high water. In my own case I tried to quit three times but wasn't really motivated enough. I had an ulcer and healed it up three times. Doctor kept telling me I wouldn't stay rid of it until I quit smoking and I would try and give up and pretty soon the ulcer was back. In March of '72 the old ulcer was back and really giving me fits. About 2 AM one morning I decided while eating a handful of Gelusil trying to stop the burning in my stomach that if cigarettes were going to cause me this much misery I wasn't ever going to touch another. I threw that pack in the trash and I've never toughed any kind of tobacco again. It wasn't easy. I chewed a lot of gum and ate a lot of Coffee Nips and gritted my teeth for awhile but the longer you stay off them the easier it gets. It took about a year and then cigarette smoke began to stink. That's when you pretty well have the habit whipped.

I havnt had a cigarette in 24 hrs. This SUCKS

You made it!
You already quit.
You quit 24hrs. ago.
Just remember how hard it was to quit.
And remember the next cig you smoke is the begining of trying to quit all over again.
I quit a pack a day habit in March 09.
That's over $1000 saved so far!

Congratulations, just stay after it one day at a time until you have it whipped………

Quitting smoking was one of the smartest moves I ever made, I haven’t had a smoke in years.  I won’t say that I don’t think about it on occasion, but it is just a passing thought and I haven’t relapsed.

I never realized how much better one feel after quitting until I experienced it myself. Also, I never realized I smelled so bad until I was off cigarettes for a while and smelled a smoker.  Makes me wonder how I ever trapped a wife.  Today I find attractive women that seem to have everything going for them but when you get close they smell like a butt can, it seems to hurt their feelings when you tell ‘em. ::) ::) ::)

I had to make a lot of changes in my life to quit, I quit drinking coffee with the smokers at work, I think all we really ever had in common was a job and a pack of butts.  I tried to avoid the places where I use to go to smoke, I no longer allowed smoking in my house or vehicles, and I started an exercise program.  At 70 years old I am in better shape than a lot of younger men I know.

quit smoking ..huh sounds like fun..i recon i have 15 or more times ...
once for 15 yrs..id be alright until i was having a beer an relaxing with one of my drinking friends.. then another would show up and before you know it quiting smoking wasn t too important ,,right then...this when i was young..
my conclusion was both had to go..
its not gonna take luck... its gonna take you deciding you want to not smoke,, more than you want to smoke..
a friend of mine hit me with this irony one day..
he said ,,,,everybody that smokes is gonna quit ... its just a question of whether its before or after it kills them..now theres always gonna be the remnant smokers who at 80 yrs old are still ticking... but for every one like that,, theres probably a hundred on oxygen or in the graveyard..
i quit so many times it got easy ,,really with the patch.. its staying quit..thats hard..
listening to my wife breathe was the last draw .... she got chantx an we havn t looked back...
now all i hear is that sweet snore at night.. she quit three yrs ago..
as far as i know ive smoked my last.. but it one day at a time...slim

I had chewed a can of snuff a day for last twenty years along with a half a pack of smokes- give or take. Quit last may with a little help from laser therapy. Some of my posts might seem off the wall, this time of night the cravings are the worst. It is easy for people to say "why don't you just quit?" when they have no idea how hard it is. I quit over 5 months ago and wake up with a sore jaw because I grind my teeth all night, I have dreams about having a dip and wake up in the middle of the night, mad at myself because I cheated then realize it was just a dream.

I quit smoking about 25 years ago.
2 packs of Camel Reg's everyday.
I loved those things.

Here it is 25 years later and I could start right back up.
I won't. But I could. I figure it's easier to stay quit than have to re-quit again.

at that point who cares...i most likely will die of natural causes before the booze and smokes get me.

From a former Smoking Alcoholic, cold turkey is the only way to go.  In the nest few weeks think about how the first 48 hours were.  Be proud of your resolve, and ask your self if you want to go through that again.

I quite drinking to get drunk 30 years ago, and smoking 25 years ago.  Best two things I ever did.  Oh, every once in a while I still want a smoke, but I tell myself I really do not want to go through that again.  Also when I get depressed I sometimes think how good it would be to just get drunk and forget about what has me depressed.  Then I tell myself, "No, that won't do any good, might even make matters worse".

2 yrs 9 months after 35 yrs. My family said I would never quit ha!!!!!!!!!!  Chantix works, you just got to say no and make up your mind. Good on you Burnt and Atlaw just say no right now and it will work, do something to get winded and say enough allready, you know you can. Man at 52 I got me some wind back and feel alot better and getting some  more wind back. Not smelling like an ashtray is great also.
