10 bore any one use it??????
« on: October 02, 2009, 01:07:49 PM »
A couple years ago, I bought a BPS 10 ga. Didn't have much chance to use it in the time I have owned it. Shot a few sage grouse with it and a turkey.  Yesterday I shot a couple mallards with it. Honestly, it impressed me with its killing power with steel shot. I have used steel off an on, but this was the nicest work I have done with it. One sees little about it since the advent of the 3.5 12, but it sure seems to do a nice job.    :D ;) :)

I use one all the time for geese and turkey and quite a bit for duck hunting.  Mine is an SP-10 and in my opinion the best gun every made.

I just don't understand why Remington does not design a 12 gauge with the technology of the SP-10.

Glad to see someone else likes the mighty 10!!!!! ;D

I use a BPS 10 for geese.  I've duck hunted with it but I don't like the weight and balance for faster moving birds.  I LOVE 3 1/2" BBBs for big Canadas.

I use my 10 gauge when the geese are flying high, it'll really reach out and touch em. Other than that I use my Benelli 3 1/2  12.  :)

aim small miss small,
think small,miss not at all

I like my SP-10.  A few of the people around here (local hunting buddies) argue that 3.5" magnum 12's are a better choice, I respectfully disagree.  Although some 12 gauge barrels are available overbored to almost 10 gauge dimensions the proof is in the pattern.  From what I have been able to observe the 10 patterns better.  I like to use BB size steel for geese and have had some great mornings in wheat stubble with it.  The SP-10 is heavy however, and it is not a lot of fun to carry it around all day, I prefer to use it in the blind or from some stationary place.

Low percieved recoil helps make it a pleasure to shoot, and the weight makes it easier to "follow through" on passing birds.

We came, we saw, we conquered, we left.

My part of Virginia is buckshot/shotgun only, few years ago I pick up an Ithaca Auto-10 it loves double ought and will do fairly well with ought. Would like to use it on geese but not sure what shells would work now a days, pretty sure steel is a no go in her

Bizmouth works well out of my old SXS with fixed chokes.
the down side is it costs $5-8 to load my SXS.
You may also want to check with RTS shot shells and see what they have in their new line.
they also load some 2 7/8" shells.
I have some for Phesants.
Great guys to deal with.

Your right on the no go for the mag 10 it's a fixed extra full choke and you will get a bulge in the barrel at the choke, there are several things you can do 1. is have a screw in choke installed or 2. have the fixed choke bored out to at least Mod. I went with having a screw in choke installed 6-7 years ago it was $90 and came with 3 chokes I understand it's like $125 now.
Remember it's where the first bullet goes out of a cold barrel that counts most.
