My Handi's on a Turkey Hunt
« on: September 30, 2009, 04:20:56 PM »
Arizona's Fall Turkey Hunt starts Friday. My Son is going and I offered my Handi. It normally sports a .308 barrel. But today it was insulted when I removed the Rifle barrel and replaced with the 12 ga. 3 1/2" chambered Turkey barrel. He is a big Guy and can handle the recoil, I shot 00 buck in this barrel only once and never again.
We used to be able to hunt Turkey with Rifles here, now it is Shotguns only. What a bummer.

I hear ya on that 12 gauge recoil.   I had a Tracker 2 in 12 gauge that I fired two slugs out of and put it down, and I had enough of that!

I sold it and bought a 20 gauge, but my excuse wasn't the recoil, it was that I couldn't mount a scope rail on the barrel because they are pretty thin at the chamber.

Naw, it wasn't the recoil, it was the scope rail!......Ok I'm a whimp!

Good luck with the turkey hunt!    I'm all geared up and ready to go Saturday with the opening of bow season, and this week is sure going by slow!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

I had a 3 1/2" 12 Gauge Pardner key word being "had" (yes I'm a recoil wimp). ;)
The one I had threw the nicest pattern I've ever seen at 40 yards with Rem. 3 1/2" Nitro Turkey #5's.
I have a 20 gauge now and life is good.

I think that bbl was #1 or 2 with 2 oz Turkey loads in the recent Handi Recoil Poll if you ain't careful you'll not poke an eye out but you may detach a retina. Kurt

I have a friend , when he Retired did alot of Trap shooting. His Trap shooting ended when he got a detached retina in his shooting eye from the constant recoil. After a very painful recovery his Doc advised no more Shotgunning or Trap shooting.

BTW; The accessory barrel program listed a 10 ga. barrel when I got my 12 ga. fitted to my SB2 in 2007.

The 10ga barrel will only fit an SB2 10ga frame, not the same as a rifle SB2.
