Real Black Powder in a 14" 45-70!
« on: September 30, 2009, 01:25:04 PM »
Curiosity kills the cat!  I just had to try it.  I loaded up some 45-70's with about 60 grains of GoEx 2Fg and some 520 grain cast lead slugs.  WooHoo!  I couldn't hit the side of a barn with it, but what a thrill!  There's nothing else like real black powder!  Makes a BIG, FAT sounding BOOM, and lots of smoke!

Yup,

It's one heck of a lot of fun. The only thing better is doing it at a public range and watching the reactions of the people around you.

It's priceless.

Yep.....FUN is the deal here.  I have some nickel plated brass that I use solely for this process.  I knock out the primers pretty quickly and slosh the brass around in some soapy water and set'm up to dry.  I have no idea how many times I've loaded them.
Oh yea...did I mention FUN???  Yea!!  Slim is right on at the range too.
GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  ;)

Sounds like one you needs to put this on you tube. Would be the thing to shoot next to the Short mag/muzzle brake guys. ;D

There used to be a video of someone shooting a Contender 45-70 at the range.  You can here rifles and pistols popping all around until "BOOM", then everything goes silent!

BTW, I have ordered an 8" 45-70 barrel from Bullberry!  That should be a hoot!! ;D

I posted a link to my video before. The audio is taken from my buddy's cheap little digital camera, and REALLY doesn't do it justice, but you can here the pause after I rip one off.

It's an older video, the barrel wears a scope now.

Lemmie see if I can figure this out...

Nope, maybe this one...

This one didn't pick up the audio at all...

Dunno why?

I think the first video may have been 535 Postell's, I'm not sure. I'm not really trying to horse the gun down much in either video. As far as the smoke, I think I'd have to blame the lighting and the time of day, angle of the sun on that one?

I still don't know what's wrong with the audio. I think the cheap speaker in the little camera must have an overload protection circuit in it!
