What 22-250 load is killing these things at 400-600 yards? What scope? Just curious.

.22-250  It's a 50 BMG with a cyclotron telescope.

That same load would have about the same energy at the muzzle as my 410 gr load would have at 600 yards....

Ya know, I'm sorry to put this here and now.  There are a lot of inexperienced hunters, Kids, newcomers to shooting, ladies wanting to get involved, etc. learning here on this forum.  When folks post here, it is 99.99% gospel truth, and you can rely on it.  Novices take and run with it..........then you get someone telling a kid he can kill a deer at 600 yards with a .22-250.

The 55 gr varmit bullets is not what I planned on using, the 64 gr winchesters will be my starting point. A 25-06 is no question a good long range round but personally I prefer less kick. For years I used a 243 out to those distances with the same results as with my friends 22-250 but as luck would have it I no longer have my Remington 700 so that's why I am in the market for it now.

Well the 64 grain load from Winchester is still considered a varmint load by Winchester.  The .25-06 and .243 doubles the energy of the .22-250 at 500 yards and the .270 Win nearly triples it.  I'd be happy with a cartridge that only had 400 ft-lbs of energy at 100 yards as long as it was pushing a .35 caliber slug or larger, because a little bit of error at or inside 100 yards is a little bit of error.  A little bit of error at or beyond 400 yards is a whole lot of trouble especially with little light weight bullets.

This has been somewhat interesting. I have great respect for the 22-250. It is a very devastating round. I see NO reason to use it on deer at all unless that's all you have and you are starving. I wouldn't risk making the deer suffer because my shoulder might feel a little pain. I didn't find the logic of this kind of thinking against PETA. I'm thinking maybe this is more of a mindset of just shooting them as they are a nusiance rather than hunting. Sounds like maybe they are a problem for an agricultural area. I'd say buy the Rossi, probably give the deer a sporting chance.
Sourdough would be more qualified on this matter than I. I haven't found any 600 yd deer hunting situations around here.

I think about keeping the .22Mag Handi loaded for that 6am-7am 10 yard shot from my bedroom window (2nd fl, they are about 10' off the deck) that presents itself just about every day (they like to snack at the birdfeeder). Too bad it is illegal.

   My uncle use to hunt deer with his 222. He killed a lot of deer with it. Use to piss off my old man. He would ask him yeah and how many do you hit that get away. But he thought there was only one deer rifle and that was the 30-06. Upset him when i bought a 270 instead of an 06 to hunt deer with.
