Ok most of you remember my kidney issues. My doc told me to drink a couple of drinks a couple of times a week to keep my kidneys flushed. I am struggling with finding something tolerable to the taste buds that isn't so strong that I don't have a hangover the next day. Anyone have a good beer to recommend or a wine that doesn't make your mouth pucker? I have found through experimenting that I can' t drink enough liquor to do the job without getting drunk so that is out of the question. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd probably go with some brand of light beer. Only you can say which brand you would prefer,but I don't think you'll have to get too exotic to find one which suits you.

The Michelob low carb beer tastes surprisingly good,..and Miller Lite is cheap and tastes as good as any to me.

Try one of those hard lemonades or twisted teas. I have a friend who can't drink beer so he drinks those. Though they have always given me indigestion, they may work for you.

I would guess that the doc recommended drinking alxcahol because it acts as a diuretic.

I suggested the beer because it has enough alcohol to activate the kidneys and also provides a lot of liquid to act as the flushing agent.

I drink between two and three gallons of cranberry juice a week and have been for years. It doesn't work to cleanse the build up on the cyst in my kidneys. It does help with keeping my kidneys active when the cyst are in a state of rest, but when I consume protein or calcium I need the alcohol to flush the build up off the cyst. If I could function properly without calcium or protein then I would agree and skip the drinking all together.

Fazak,

I was not aware of alcohol being a diuretic, but now that you mention it, I remember having to make way too many trips to the john when I'd go out and have a few beers.

I just can't drink beer anymore. A few years ago I got inflicted with acid reflux and had to quit drinking it.

a sweet red wine is good for you in many ways if done in moderation. here in south eastern nc we have a company called duplin winery, www.duplinwinery.com and they have a great red called Hatteras Red. it is just like my daddy use to make and his daddy before him. not very expensive. you can purchase online.

Not to make light of your situation but that has to be one of if not the best excuse to "tie one on" I ever read.

Easy going down wine is Sangria for me. I get one from a local winery that is 10% alcohol.
Other drinks that go down easy with a pleasant taste are the wine coolers or spritzers.
Another possibilty would be a hard "likker" watered down to whatever % you can use without that hangover feeling.
I drink Jack Daniel that way, the Missus likes Gin& Tonic.

If you need a break from beer, don't forget to try a few of the many "table" wines. They are usually not much stronger than beer, at around 7%.

My personal favorite is Lambrusco Rose'. It is not sour like Lambrusco, is not sweet, yet lacks the dry taste of many table wines.

My doctor recommends BEER. If you can tolerate tomato juice mix the beer with it, try a twist of lime or lemon to help hide the taste of the beer if necessary. I guess I am lucky, I just enjoy the taste of beer so don't have any problem drinking it, my problem is the doctor limits me to no more than two-three bottles a week. Not that I would drink more, I just don't like the idea of anyone putting limitation on what I eat or drink.

Sweet wines are:
Reisling - Smells like Flowers and is sweet
Gaverstraminer- German for spice wine- some are sweet more like a Reisling but others are sweet with a hint of spice.
Muscat- Really sweet.
Port- Higher alchol as Brandy is added to the wine.
Sherry- Sweet and smooth. there was one that was made around the corner from my old house we would dump on Ice Cream.
There is also Brandy.
I will look in the wine cellar and send you something.
Let me know what kinds of tastes you like.

For sweet Beers try Newcastle. It is an amber beer with sweet over tones.
Also the Michalobe amber Bock is good smooth beer.
Don't be afraid of the dark.
My favorite beer is Bass- has a little more bite than the Newcastle.
With hard achol the more expensive the less the hang over.

I really don't drink that much. Honest.

Thumbs up on the Reisling. If you don't want to go with something that sweet, but still really good. Try a chardonay by Cakebread wineries. Very nice.

The Blue Moon beer with the slice of orange is a great combination as recommended by Feddog.

I would advise beer or ale. They both do a great job of flushing the kidneys. You might prefer ale instead of beer.

How much is that?
Oh the difference between Ale and Lager is the yeast.
One feeds on the top the other feeds off the bottom. There are only the two types.
The wheat beers (Heffenwiesen), stouts, or Meade (honey beer) are made in one of these two ways. The way they add the yeasts and what other items they add is what makes the type.

jeez yu guys are lushes! if yu want to avoid a hangover which is just basically dehydration of the brain, be sure to drink lots of water after imbibeing.no smokeing also as that intensifies the effect.im lucky, almost any alcohol short of moonshine run thru a model t radiator doesnt really have a bad effect on me.good luk heather, the fun is in the hunt.

If you like chocolate (and what girl doesn't?) try a nice pint of Guinness or Bass Ale which have a chocolaty finish.
