Walmart Surprise
« on: September 24, 2009, 02:30:50 AM »
Although I am currently only a Handi Rimfireaholic, I do remember many conversations on this site, and the old H&R site regarding the accuracy of the Winchester White Box .223 ammo in the Handi. It shoots incredibly well in my CZ 527 American as well. I had bought it when I saw it available, but haven't seen it in ages (for obvious reasons).

I was out yesterday making the rounds of the local Hartford area gun shops (its good relaxation therapy on 'one of those days') and in-between shops I stopped at WalMart. They don't have much in the stores around here anymore, but you never know what you'll find....

Well, to my surprise I found 2 - 40 round boxes of WWB in .223!! It may not seem like a big deal, but it made my day a little better.

Of course, the last boxes I bought cost me around $14.99/50 rounds, and these boxes were $23.97 ea. for 40 rounds!! But that's the way things are currently.

I'm glad you were able to find some.  I've been looking for WWB 240 gr. .44 Mags and so far have come up with didley squat.

Walmart here has had the 45g Value Packs for over a year now, there have been several reports of it being stocked again, fortunately I don't need any more, still have over 400 rounds of the $14 a box stuff.  :)

Back when I used to actually get out and shoot prior to the death of my best friend and shooting partner Billy Doss that would barely have lasted one shooting session. These days tho it's a lot of years worth other than when I go PD shooting.

No PDs here, I'm sure if I made it to a PD shoot it wouldn't be enough either,  I can drive a couple hundred miles to some good sage rat huntin, but my huntin partner seems to spend more time working than anything else lately, his wife won't let him retire so she can maintain her lifestyle, so that ammo is probably a lifetime supply and then some.  We've talked about going on a sage rat hunt many times, but it ain't happened yet, he even bought a 223 Ultra Varmint and I did a trigger job on it for him.  :'(

Yes, 80 rounds is no arsenal, but it'll do for the darn coyotes who like to dine on the Barn Cats  ;)

I've reloaded some accurate rounds for the CZ, but it just LOVES those WWB 45 JHPs!!!!!

But for tonight, its week 2 of Bow season in CT  ;D

Went to the local shop, Small Rifle Primers like crazy, 41, 400, 6 1/2, all you could handle. And 44-40 for some bizarre reason I am sure. Went 15 min to the 2 week old WalMart Super Center. Piles of Fed Auto Match .22, 30-30, 45 ACP, .40 and 44 Mag (UMC and WWB). Piles. Small amounts of pretty much everything else.

Walmarts here are starting to get some ammo. Petes 44 mags all over the place. 30-30, 38 special +p, and a few others. Went to Gander Mtn the other day and found 100 Rem 71/2 small rifle bench rest primers for 4.99. Bought them anyway, thought they were Rare or something.  G.M is back to their old tricks again. Same powder they had on the shelf a week ago for 24.99 is NOW marked 29.99. They marked up some 218 Bee boxes to 99.00 a while back and they had them there for over a year. The boxes were old and tore up from people looking at such rare ammo. That really gets me when they mark up stuff they've had a long time. They did finally mark it back down to around 69.99 and I think someone bought it thinking they were getting a DEAL... OH WELL!
