Some advice on options
« on: September 18, 2009, 03:09:20 PM »
I have a receiver and forearm left over from an H&R TC 38-55.  I had sent that barrel off to another fellow here on this site for his dad.

I still have two Wesson & Harrington TC's in 38-55.  Now, what should I get to fit on the left over stock/frame/forend????  I had thought about a 45-70 BC naturally but now I'm wondering.

I have a 45-70 Shikari so thats kinda taken care of, I shoot only Black Powder cartridge so that sort of limits my options I guess to "old fashion cartidges" like the 45LC or maybe the 30-30, don't know.  Will the TC foreend fit any new barrel?  Don't necessarilly want to go with a big $$$ custom, so, I would appreciate some thoughts.  Thanks.  Jim.

The BC/TC forend will fit any H&R barrel except the 12ga USH and TDC, but the length of it doesn't look good on a short barrel to me, it's shorter than a mannlicher, but longer than a normal forend,  you'll probably want a BC carbine forend if you put it on a barrel much shorter than about 26" IMO.

Thanks Tim, ya that thought had crossed my mind too after I posted this thread.....maybe just go and get a BC 45-70 and have done with it.  Can I simply buy one direct?

H&R will only sell fitted accessory barrels when you send a frame in if it qualifies for fitting. But you can buy a used barrel in the classifieds and fit it yourself.  ;)

Thanks as usual.  I'll keep looking for a BC 45-70.  Heck its what I should have done from the start.  Thanks again.  Much appreciated.  Jim.
