My cousin bought a 223 a few months ago.  He is willing to take 1/2 of what he paid to get rid of it.
When he brought it over and we compared it to a Handi side by side, it becomes obvious that the Handi much more well made.  The Rossi just felt cheap, and it shot that way as well.
6" to 8" groups at 100 yards was the best it could do after working up some loads.  With cheap factory ammo it would run 12" groups or worse.

The Rossi , just like the Handi are an ok , low cost , single shot hunting rifle and thats all they were ever ment to be .

I have shot both and personaly do not like the fit , finish or feel of the Rossi stock , the fact that it can not be fitted with other barrels is also a down side to some . $ for $ the Handi wins on a few fronts , you can change stock sets to suit your needs , you can add other barrels if you wish and mostly -- Its still ( MADE IN AMERICA ) .

My nephew has one in 308 that I've shot. It shoots pretty good, but I prefer a Handi over a Rossi. They seem to be better made.

The Handi fit and finish is better, anything else is grab bag, either could beat the other in any other contest.  Larry

Ive never had a Rossi and theres a reason.  They look too skinny to be any good.  I think the 410/22's would be OK though for a lightweight gun but I wouldnt want any of the others.

I have several Handis and I love every one of them.     about 7 yrs ago I bought a Rossi 22/410 combo at Wally World for about $100.    I wasn't expecting much with the Rossi and the workmanship certainly lived up to that expectation.    The front sight on the 22 barrel was canted about 10 degrees to  the right - so much so you could not make the rear sight compensate for it.   It would only shoot about 2" at 50 yds.

Now the 410 barrel is a different animal altogether.   It has a full choke on it and will throw a very tight consistent pattern.    Very good for squirrels and rabbits.    ;My son loves the 410 and takes it every time we go out.

I went to the SHOT Show in January and checked out the Rossi exhibit and lo and behold I found some 22 barrels with canted front sights.     Very poor Quality Control coming out of that company.   I will never own another.

For my money it will be Handis now and in the future.

I have a a 12ga slug gun and I bought a youth 22LR/20ga combo. The youth combo was on sale for $89. I agree with trotterlg, the fit & finish are less, but they shoot where I aim. The sights are really cheap, but I put a BSA red dot on the 22 and a BSA 4X on the slug gun. I'll say that I would not let a child have the 20ga, it kicks worse than the 12ga slug gun! The gun with the youth receiver/stock is really light. The other thing is, the 3 barrels I have fit both frames well, that may just be a fluke.

I have a Rossi youth "3 pak" I picked up at D!cks's for 199.00 2 years ago, .22, 20ga smoth and 20ga slug bull barrell.
Fit and finish looks "ok" comparable to the Handi's,
The .22 has cheap fiber optic sights, but they work fine, we use it for "plinking", mainly letting the kids get used to operating  the gun.
The 20 ga smoth bore is getting tapped for a scope base, and red dot.

The 20ga slug barrel - mounted a 4x scope,  let me just say, I have started leaving my 1100 sps deer gun at home and taking the rossi.
It is a tack driver, and everyone who shoots it cant figure out how it kicks so LITTLE ?? most of the weight is in the barrell, it is a fat barrell.
I weights about the same as my mossberg 500 20 ga, but has 1/2 the kick using the same slugs (lightfield).

Likes about the rossi :
low hammer, low scope mounts
interupt bar saftey
average quality for the price

dislikes:
no 3rd party stocks
no barrel program
no public following (used guns/barrels do not exist)
It appears rossi has stopped shipping guns ??? talked to 4 distributors looking for a rossi, they have not received any since Jan.
