My 357mag is 1-15.5" twist
« on: September 15, 2009, 10:13:59 AM »
Just wanted to put that out there.  Been reading where some 357s werent shooting higher weight bullets well, but mine is shooting the 200sp's just fine.  RERERE-read the faqs and saw the higher twist rates.  Anybody else measure there rates in the newer 357's...mine is at least 2yrs old.  Accessory barrel from Gardner.  Ive been thinking a max ream...but now maybe I could go to 35Rem or 358 win...
I would be tickled to be able to do the 358 I remember a thread but cant search from this device yet.  Is it doable?
Anyway just thought I'd share my discovery.

Hmmm, I thought you could have been right Kurt, they were using up the 35 Whelen blanks, mine is about the same age, 1:15½", but I checked my 35 Rem barrel which is a much older 357mag barrel, it's 1:15½" also!! :o Evidently they changed the twist rate sometime along the way, or it's been that all the time and no one has confirmed it, I don't think I ever did. Maybe everyone needs to check and see if anyone has a possibly mythical 1:18¾" twist barrel, info on how to check twist rate is listed at the bottom of the twist rate list in the FAQs....meanwhile, I have some editing to do!!  :D

Thanks Jerry!  ;)

I would really be interested in the twist of the newest mag barrels coming on the SB1 frames.  I need to get an unadulterated one and I would def. Want this faster twist.

I suspect it's the same, they're marked SB2 like the old ones, same run of barrels, just on the SB1 frame instead.
