I would suggest medium rings.

Depends on the scope, see the FAQs, there's a link on rings. With the right scope with a small power ring and ocular bell or a fixed power and a little hammer trimming, low and even extra low rings can be used.  ;)

Is low and extra low rings the way to deal with a stock that does not have any or much of a comb rise?

Not for me, but some would need the scope as low as possible to work without a monte carlo stock. I know many here prefer the non-monte carlo stocks for scope use, Lik2hunt is one that I specifically remember making a point about it. As I stated, mounting in high or extra high rings due to scope design and hammer interference really compounds the issue.

On the other hand, I have a couple H&Rs with peep sights that work fine for me with monte carlo stocks.  ;)
