Went to range yesterday
« on: September 07, 2009, 04:44:03 AM »
Well went to range yesterday to make sure the 45/70 is ready for deer season and after shooting my rifle I noticed a man and his son pull up.  His son was probably 7 or 8 and had a handi rifle.  Well long story short he shot better than I did and he had to stand on a milk crate to shoot of the bench.  He was complaining that big kids guns shoot more than once and that his only shot once.  Had to show him mine to show that some big kids have single shot too.  Just enjoyed seeing a little one at the range instead of in front of a video game.

My boys (14 & 15) have their video game and TV time rationed and monitored closely.

I started centerfire and reloading with them in late 2008, and when I was living in Jefferson City, and the range near Russellville was just 20 miles away, they always choose range time over video game time.

Admittedly, their satisfaction with their range time always corresponded with how many clay targets they are able to snipe at 100 yards, rather than punch paper. I just site in on targets for my different loads, then hand the Hornet over with their "fun" loads made up from leftover components, and they setup 12 clays at a time and go for it.

I got into this late (54) and also went thru a short period of time when I tested my eyes and open sites, and recoil of a 20g slug gun...that did not last too long at all. Stepped right back to the 22 Hornet.
