What semi-auto set-up will the hunters be using this fall?

:D
I am using my Ruger Deerfield with a Burris 2 3/4 power scope. The cartridge will be Speer Gold Dot 270 grain factory loads. Hope to get to the range soon. So, what set-ups are some of you other hunters using? Also of interest are any comments on range performance and sight in methods.

I had hoped to carry my Globco 555 in .303 British for part of this deer season, but since I haven't started swaging bullets for it yet, I've decided to forgo that pleasure for this year.

I was able to buy an additional doe tag for a hunt in the third week of November near my home.  I've been toying with the idea of sticking a scope on my Remington 742 in 6mm Rem., and carrying it for those long range shots in the farm country.

By the way.  What's a "targ", and are they good eating?  :-D
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

Of the moment, looks like BAR 30-06 Safari w/BOSS, 1.5X5 Leupold Vari X III with hvy duplex in Burris Z rings on weaver bases, shooting Winchester 165 PSP at 2800 fps.

Should be able to clear the timber with the first clip and light em right up with the second

Best Regards,

I'll be in some real thick stuff most of the time and will probably get some use out of my little BAR lightweigt in .308 w a 1.5 x 4.5 Nikon. Conversely I hunted with my .260 Encore single shot last year. In the thick those back up shots can come in handy on a moving buck.

Rick Teal,
When the staples are removed from the "targs", they stew up pretty well. The printer's ink can be somewhat distasteful tho. I still hunt them and they rarely move unless there is a high wind.

Recoilpad,
Hey, don't be so stingy with the words, how 'bout a little more info on this interesting semi set-up. Accuracy? Handling? Recoil? Thanks

Browning BAR Grade II Full Belgium .30-06 combined with either Leupold Varix II 1-4 for thick stuff, or Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9 for longer range deer shots.  Heck - couldn't turn down the new Elite on closeout from WalMart for a mere 80 bucks.
The intruder turns around slowly, sees both barrels, and hears a low-deep voice say "Son, the left one's iron and the right one's steel, if the left one don't get you, the right one will"

Well, several shots with the 99/44 at 100 yards using the peep and it hasn't shifted in a year. Now I attach the scope and get a 100 yard offhand group you can cover with your hand, same point of impact as last year. Looks like the Ruger Deerfield has earned a level of confidence as it enters its third year of service. Seems to really like the Speer 270 grain Gold Dot bullet, as it shoots these well in factory ammo and reloads (Win 296, 21.2 grs).

I dressed up my 20 dollar DCM 30 cal Carbine with a custom stock and a Weaver K 25 scope, that has been reconditioned and fitted with a modern Duplex reticule.
It's a good shooter and really nice to carry in the the thick New York woods.
I have great hopes for it,on it's first hunting Season,but so far,we have'nt had a chance.
