Gun and Knife Show

They're having a gun and knife show at the Antique Tractor and Steam Engine Show in Escanaba, MI this weekend.  I went yesterday, a two hour drive one way.  The gun show wasn't much.  I think Tim or CW have more guns than were in the whole show.  There were only 3 H&Rs, all way over priced.  A .410, a 20 ga. and a .223 with a NO serial number.  The tag on .223 was 250.00, and the shotguns were used, priced over new.  I did find a box of fifty .38 +P for eighteen bucks.  Only one guy had bullets, brass, powder and primers, and all he had was small pistol primers.

The Tractor and Steam Engine show was large, and fun.  Patty got to put on her "Old Timey" dress and sit, visit and spin with her lady friends.

Sounds like a disappointment in the shooting/gun department :-\ But a good day for getting out and doing something different. ;D

Pete - was there a couple years ago.  Your description fits that one perfectly - small and pricey!

I've noticed NEF shotgun prices like that at other shows too.  And not just NEF/H&R, but other guns too are priced more than you can buy new or used at a gun shop.

I've come to think of the people sitting behind the tables as DISPLAYERS, not sellers!

I spent a week in Escanaba about 18 years ago consulting on the construction of a 70' steel passenger vessel.   Looked like a nice place to live.
If the Winchester 94s were just run of the mill, the price was very high.  If they were early 1894s (pre 1930s) with all the good options and never refinished, the price may have been OK.

Great Scott!!!  Were they the pair of  full ivory-stocked and engraved rifles made for the Pasha of Istanbul and displayed at the World's Fair in 1906?

They were just late models, a 30-30 and a .32.  The .32 may have been a few years older, but not any different than the .30-30.  I'm not a super authority on 94s, but I was dazzled by the price.  For my money, at the time I bought it, my Marlin .336T was and still is a better rifle.

Just take a look on GunBroker- Winchester 1894 Deluxe 32-40... one for $5950 another for $2500.
Or look in the Blue Book of Gun Values..........
But just think how many Handi Rifles this $$$$ can buy... :P

100 year old 94's in mint condition sell for 1500-3000 easily. The popular wisdom is that they were handmade and to duplicate them now would cost 2500+. Which will never happen again. That said, a beater pre 64 32 Special still goes for under 300 by me.

Yeah, are those prices crazy or what?
I just put an older Glenfield 30-30 on layaway, with a GOOD scope on it, for under $225 (pawnshop).
And you can get a real nice Handi for about that. Or a nice old Savage model 340.  Who in the world would pay more than $400 for an M94?
I just can't see any reason to do that.
Maybe I'm too cheap, or it's old man syndrome - my dad had that, used to give me ten bucks and tell me to go buy some new shoes :)

You can buy a new 336 with scope at Dicks for 369 minus the 35 rebate this afternoon. Not so with 94s.

I know that, but I still think 1500 is a little steep for a 10 or 15 year old 94. (If that old).

Pete we had much the same at our last gun show a few weeks ago.  Only two NEF's in the place, and they were shotguns.  Every thing was black guns and high cap. mags.  Just a few other type weapons.  Plenty of pistols, and no ammo.  My brother bought a micro eagle 380 at a good price, but no one there had any ammo.  I had to halve mine with him just so he could try it out.

A 10-15 year old 94 is rarely worth more than 500. The 32 Special has not been made in a regular production 94 for at least 40 years I believe.
