.460 S&W Magnum
« on: September 05, 2009, 11:29:20 AM »
Is there any plans for the .460 S&W Magnum to be made into a Handi? I saw Ruger made a No. 1 in that caliber with a 22 inch barrel. That I would imagine would add quite a bit of velocity to the already speedy cartridge? Quick, any idea? What velocity do you all think would be possible with this set-up in a Handi with the same barrel length?
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."

HAHA well, I want to know!   ;D I would think it would do very well! I know people are making 190-200 yd shots on whitetails with the X-Frame revolvers.
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?

It's been to the range a couple times with 250gr SSTs and 200gr Hornady factory ammo, accuracy was less than satisfactory at 2½"-3" 100yd groups, velocity with the factory ammo was nearly 2900fps, just shy of 2500fps with the 250gr SST & H110. I want to try the 300gr SST and 275gr Barnes next.

Wow. How was the recoil? What was it comparable to?
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?

It has no recoil.......in a lead sled!!! So I can't really tell ya for sure, but this recoil calculator says it's about 24.4lbs with the 200gr and 26.3lbs for the 250gr, a bit more than a top 45-70 trapdoor load, 300gr @1800fps.

Not horrible then. Thats good.
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
