Peeps & Front Sights

If I put a peep sight on my .45-70 Handi, will I have to go to a taller front sight.  I don't really want to put a taller front sight on it.  Which peep would you suggest?

The Peep and Firesights link in the FAQs shows what front sight height works with the WGRS with trapdoor loads. The .494" dovetailed Lyman 17A sight works well if that helps, which it may not because dovetail sights are measured from the bottom of the dovetail.

 With the WRGS site definitely yes you will need a taller front site. Possibly if you had a custom setup on the side of the barrel, you could get away with the stock site, but more likely either way you will need a taller site.

I had a calculator saved.. but the link is broken.. I know Tim has it!!

The sight height calculator at Brownell's disappeared when they update their website, I replaced the link listed in the FAQs with some others they have listed, but they require manual calculatin using the measurements or how-to videos, no more plug in the figures and press enter.  :-\

Swampman,

Have never seen these sights discussed good or bad on any site that I've been to but I think that I am going to try them on my Handi .45-70, .30-30 and on  my .45 Trapper.

I have not emailed and asked them if a front sight change is required and will before I pay the money.

They won't have the adjustability some of the other sights if rifle is going to be used for long range shooting but all my shooting is under 200 yds with mentioned rifles so it don't make me much difference and they retain the original sight look.

Quickdtoo and some of the others that have been playing with Handi rifles longer then I have may have more  information that I'm unaware of pertaining to the this sight.

XS makes a ghost ring sight for the H&R, but I don't think it's any lower than a WGRS and costs a lot more, the WGRS is less the $20 + shipping from H&R.
