New Pack Rifle, Bulberry 30/30
« on: September 01, 2009, 09:48:18 PM »
My new GF has never been hunting, but wants to try.  So we'll give it a try, as i looked through the safe tonight, I realised that she'll most likely be shooting my Ruger M77.308 about 8#'s.  My choice is a hand built Remington .308 in a Tac Stock, although accurate easily out to 800+yds, the thing is HEAVY!.  12 - 14#'s.

So I went to the Thompson Chest of drawers.  And located my Bulberry 30/30 barrel took the 6-24X44 scope off (to heavy, bulky and frankly quite dark)  pulled a good Simmons 3-9X32 scope off a .223 barrel.  Yes I know GOOD, and SIMMONS rarely exist in the same sentence.  I usually toss the cheapy scopes, or shoot til I break um.  But this one has held up well, and holds a zero very well even when banged around.

Scoped it, and put it to my shoulder, I love it,  Rifle is, compact, light weight, and the scope is decent and bright, should be and accurate barrel haven't shot it much for years.  Think I have my deer rifle for the year.  Now I just gotta sight it in.  Being a 17" barrel, I plan to keep my limits to  approx 100yds.  Nothing fancy.

Hell if I don't get a deer and the GF does cie la vie!  At least I was there for her first.

Sounds good.

I use a 16" stainless Contender 45 colt barrel from the T/C Custom Shop with a 1.5-4.5 Bushnell on top. Light, accurate, and properly loaded quite powerful.

I picked up a 16.25" .35 Rem. barrel that I topped with a Tasco Bantam 2x shotgun scope.  I had some old ammo around and gave it a try.  At 50 yd, it shot into 1-5/8" with 4 of 5 shots into 3/4".  Shows promise.  I need to borrow dies and work with it.
