270 ultra comp for the wife
« on: August 30, 2009, 08:53:13 AM »
my wife is going to go deer hunting with me for the first time this year. i've got a 270 ultra comp that doesn't kick at all with the brake on even for her . she shoots it well and shots at her stand are only about 100 yards anyway. but what i was wondering is , i dont want her hunting with a brake on , do you think i should have her shoot a few times with out the brake or just take it off befor the hunt ? its a full house for a woman her size, 55.0gr of imr 4350 and a nosler 130gr bullet.
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

I would make sure with the brake off, make sure it's sighted in and don't say a thing to her.

An ultra comp for the wife? That was prolly a pretty good trade. I'm sure it will cost less to feed than her.  ;D

;D and less trouble :D JK... you might want to shoot it without the brake, in a hunting condition that is is beyond loud! I have been there with a 30-06 UC.
You could always work up a lighter load as well.

well i really dont want to work up a lighter load the one i have works real well in both my 270 and hers. i think i might just take the brake off the night befor we go and just take the butt chewing later if she shoots it, it does hit kinda hard without the brake.

bill- if only i was that lucky

As long as she won't notice the holey screwy thing missing from the end of the barrel ;D
joking brother, in the heat of the hunt she will be more interested in the thrill than how hard the initial recoil was... at least most likely.

Have fun.

In a hunting situation she will never even notice the recoil.  My .2 cents.....loose that noisy comp.

Make sure you know that it's on without the brake, it will change the barrel harmonics.
