Need Some Help
« on: August 26, 2009, 10:00:56 AM »
Just ran across an NEF, laminate stock, blued in really good shape for $250.  The barrel is a .223, the serial number starts with "N".  The stock is a Monte Carlo type with a gold NEF emblem on one side.  The frame has a much higher quality finish than I have seen on other Handi's.  I have absolutely no use for the barrel, but am thinking about buying it, selling the .223 and having it fitted with a .357 barrel...if Remington ever gets any.  I have no idea what this gun should sell for.  A good deal or not?

The "N" doesn't tell you a lot about age.  The second letter does.  Check the FAQs they'll tell you what year it was made.  Yeah, I too think it is a little high for used.  Good luck and good shooting.

You don't want it if it's a '96-'99, those years H&R is up in the air on what can be fitted to it, they wouldn't fit a 45-70 barrel to one for another member, I still haven't got a final decision of what they will fit to it, I suspect they'll treat it like an SB1, but don't know that for sure yet.  :-\

I think I'll stay away from it. The shop owner originally wanted $295 for it with a Burris scope and some low-end rings, but I was not interested in either so he said $250 without it.  Considering I can buy a new 45-70 with composite stock at Academy, the $250 seemed high.  But, I was not sure how much more the laminate stock and nicer blueing/metal finish added to the price.  I guess I'll let him keep it, though it is a nice looking gun.  Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.   BAB
