« on: August 26, 2009, 06:17:48 AM »
My friend Kevin Smith died in his sleep last night.
He was 48 years old and leaves behind 3 sons.
He was an Army veteran and a good man... I will miss him.

Very sad to hear Spanky. Had he been sick or suffering from an illness, or was this totally unexpected? It's the same thing that happened to my big brother when he was 43. He just went to sleep one night and never woke up. Thoughts and prayers for Kevin, family, and friends.

That is tragic news.  Thoughts and prayers for his family and you Spanky, his friend.  I had a friend who had undiagnosed diabetes and at a similar age, went to bed and never woke up.  I sure feel for families and friends who suffer the loss of a young father.

He went to a local fair yesterday with one of his sons and started having chest pains. When they got home last night he went to bed. His girlfriend woke up this morning to find him unresponsive. She called 911 but paramedics were unable to do anything for him.

NOTE TO ALL OF YOU... PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SIGNS LIKE THIS... IF YOU DON'T FEEL RIGHT GET CHECKED OUT.

I wish he would have gone to the doctor yesterday.

While he died too young and that is tragic he died as we all should wish to do quietly in our sleep with no long lingering time of suffering. That's the way my best friend Billy Doss went several years back just a short while prior to his 60th birthday. Like your friend Billy ignored some warning signs and failed to go to the doctor. He really didn't care for doctors so I guess in his case it was to be expected. Perhaps it was the same for your friend.

Mourn not for the dead but rather for those left behind who must now carry on without their loved one. I knew him not but perhaps he is now in a better place and will not have to see the bad things looming on the horizon for those of us left behind. In the coming few years we might all wish it had been us taken away sooner.

I still miss my best friend. Times are far more lonely without him as I'm sure they will be for you.

Best wishes to the family and friends in this time of sorry. They are the ones in need of prayer.

My uncle had the same thing happen to him about 2 years ago. He said it felt like a weight on his chest. He went to the ER and woke of 4 days later after a quad heart by-pass. He knew the warning signs and he and his wife acted quickly. He's 86 years old now and still kicking very well, thank God and he still as sharp as a whip.

Recently, we had the same thing happen to a 32 year old dad we knew. He was not so lucky. He left behind a wife and 3 youngster all under the age of 6. He did not heed the warning signs and it cost him his life. I guess at 32 it would be hard to beleive your about to suffer a major heart attack. Ya never know.

Always best to error on the side of caution and get to the doc.

My prayers to Kevin's family and friends.  I know of a couple of people that ignored shortness of breath, and had fatal heart attacks. Any Shortness of breath, is a sign to go get checked out.

Sorry on your loss of a friend.

I too lost a long time friend over the weekend.
In fact I am about to get ready to go to the service right now.
He was 86 with just his wife & friends left.
He used to work for me some about 15 years ago.
He will be missed for sure as they all are when the time comes.
As long as we remember them they will live on in our hearts.

GOD bless them all !!!

I've had severe shortness of breath issues for years and several times had the chest pains even complete with the pain/tiggling down the arms. I've been in twice for a heart cath and both times have been told nothing wrong with me. From now on I'll likely just ignore the signs as well. I might have a heart attack some day but ain't going thru another heart cath just to see if the signs mean anything. On the last one I was told that even the 20% blockage the first time was gone.

GB, Thats good news that the blockage has left on its own. I also have been to the hospital (twice in the last ten years) for stress tests and other tests due to shortness of breath and discomfort in my chest. Both times they said nothing is wrong with my heart. The first time I didn't know what was going on, untill I found out I had Lyme disease. The last time I figured it was the lyme acting up, but went to get checked anyway.
