« on: August 25, 2009, 03:48:50 PM »
Are these still in production? None in stock on Earth. Seems like I did not see in printed catalog, but was on web?

Welcome! It's one of the three stainless rifles they still offer.

So, is it an issue with the company selling / moving [Remington] or is it still fallout from the 08 election that no gun dealer in SC can get?

Their production for 2009 has only been the best selling firearms, they should be getting back to normal availability next year.

I bought a stainless '06 barrel about two or three years ago and it was in stock in the accessory program.  It was an ejector.  I imagine any new ones will be extractor.

I am rough on stuff. Stainless guns and synthetic stocks rule. Had wood / blue guns in past, was not pretty. My Remington 700s are SS with plastic furniture. Pretty, well in a sick way. Warm feeling of walnut, no. Sick feeling when banging soft wood on rigid treestand, not anymore. Have a SS / synthetic NEF Huntsman and love it. She needs a centerfire sister. Well, hope they get all the boxes unpacked at Illion soon, and get back to work.

Well, don't get too excited about the SS 30-06, only the barrel is SS, the frame is nickel plated. Only the SS 45-70 Ultra Hunter has a stainless frame.

I was curious about that. Good to hear, hopefully they will expand and offer it on the other new stainless models to come.
Do we have some close up pics of the Stainless reciever here? I haven't seen any, though I was gone for a period  :-[
I would like to see it without the barrel
Oh and welcome smokepole  ;D if you find one enjoy your 30-06, they shoot good in a Handi! And if not why not get a blued one and spray paint it... these barrels take very well to a good finish of Krylon.

Unfortunately with the SS frame comes a higher selling price, the SS 45-70 Ultra Hunter sells for over $400 at most stores, Bud's has it for $389 shipped. The internal components aren't SS even on it, so it's not made for a harsh environment without the same care required of a blued firearm.

Ouch! That does hurt... well I guess I can stand dealing with my blued ones ::) ;D
Though they do come with the thumbhole lams and stainless barrels... I wonder what the cost difference for them would be for just the reciever?

I dunno, neither the barrel or the frame is listed on the Oct 2008 price list, a blued frame is priced at $77.25.

Yea, I knew the recv'r was nickel, but thats got to better in the rain, well for a while. SS/Nickel vs Blue/Blue,
got to go with the shiny stuff!
