Best ethnic cuisine?
« on: August 24, 2009, 12:29:28 PM »
Italian? Chinese? Thai? Cajun? Indian? Greek? Other? What's your favorite ethnic cuisine?

For me, I'll say Chinese because it's so flexible, and because it's based on prepared sauces that are both good and easy to make. But the one I crave most often is a good slice of New York pizza.

Hi
I'll have to second that. Cajun is the best I've eaten. My wife is a Texan that cooks Cajun style and the food is really good.

It would have to be Italian for me. Even though my parents are in their mid 70's they still make some of the best sauce I've ever eaten. Although I do like cajun also. I've been to a Chinese resturant once and that was enough for me. Was also at a mexican resturant a couple of times that dosn't appeal to me either. I feel there is to much other good food too be eating Chinese or mexican food. Of coarse to each his own.

That was the one good thing about living in the Boston and New York metropolitan areas, there is every kind of authentic ethnic food you could think of.

Questor,  Have you ever been to a 'China Town' in any of the major cities like Boston, NY or San Fran.?  If you ate in a real Chinese restaurant you probably wouldn't even recognize most of the dishes. That goes for Mexican and Italian restaurants as well.  Most of what we call ethnic food is generally poorly done Americanized versions of the real McCoy made to suite the American tastes.

My High School buddy's straight of the boat Italian Nonna (Grandma) didn't make "tomato sauce" she made "tomato gravy" and it was the best I think ever had.

Since I had Bait for lunch (Sushi)  I am going to say Japanese.
But don't forget Mexican.  We should keep the food and send back the Illegal People.

Hungarian and German up front, since that is what I was brought up on. Mexican and Orential are next in line. Italian if I make it, is next.  gypsyman

I like all kinds of food.

That's probably why I'm fat. ;)

I like to try all different kinds of food. I really like Bohemian, Mexican, chinese and good sushi is awesome.

Although there's pizza (thin crust with sausage, onions and fresh garlic), Italian beef, hicago style hot dog.

Living in the midwest, we have a lot of excellent food choices.

Wait!!!
I did not know BBQ was an option or ethnic.  But I will go with it.
So southern food +1
Pork BBQ, Lard fried chicken, corn bread, Roasted Oysters, and Cole Slaw.  MMMMMM  Some vegtable cooked to a green mass with bacon and onions like butter beans.   Hush puppys with butter and Texas Pete Hot sauce.  (Best ding hot sauce out there)
Oh and some goopy nasty Nanna Pudding (Bananna Pudding with vanilla waffers in it and whip cream with gelitin in it so it will stay fluffy and on the pudding even in a huricane)  Or that worse Chocolate Pie that is baked chocolate pudding with the same whipped cream in a pie shell.
And lets see if the Baptist section of the family is around there is Sweet tea and soda, and I wrap my beer in a paper towel to be polite.
Great it's not even 9 am and now I want a huge BBQ lunch.
Being in Northern CA near San Fran.  looks like I am going to go with out.
Can't wait for November I am headed back to NC for exactly that.  I can taste the freid chicken at Charlie's in Grantsboro now.  MMMMMM

Okay, a little more serious on my part now. I have had the opportunity to travel the globe and have tried just about evverything out there. Generally I would say that Eurpoe with the exception of France, Italy & Spain has the worst food. Asia has some of the best stuff. Places like Japan, Singapore, Southern China, Hong Kong and Malaysia for seafood are amazing. Latin American countries are Okay if your like that stuff. Some of the best beef I have had was Argentine beef which is previlant south of our boarder. But, overall, I have to say American and specifically in/around Chicago and the med west. I'm a red meat man and you just can't beat the food. Okay, some will say it's not "ethnic". Okay, but none the less, its the best with Southern cooking a close second. Just my opinion.

I love Boudin, oysters, and crawfish, ranks right up there with a good veal marsala or Chicago deep dish, I'm torn between anything out of the South or Italian.

Japanese for me, I could live on sushi, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a Texan BBQ either or a big bag of jerky.

LOL Coonass: you guys sure like your sausage in every thing.
