Fish Fry at GB's
« on: August 24, 2009, 01:25:38 AM »
Yesterday Matt called to tell us that he and Bob(oldest son) and their families were coming over for a fish fry. To have a fish fry they were going to have to catch them. So everyone went to the pond to fish. They caught several catfish and three breams. The fish feed 15 people with Matt and Bob taking some home with them and leaving some with us.  Joey(Bob's youngest son) caught the first fish and it was a bream and everytime they throwed out his line he caught a fish. After awhile he was throwing out his own line and was doing a great job. Joey is in kindergarten and it looks like he is going to be a fisherman like his dad and his uncle Matt.  Joey's siblings Heather, Jennifer and Robbie caught several fish.
Matt's sons Blake and Evan(first grade) caught several fish. Matt caught one catfish. He was so busy baiting hooks and taking the fish off of the hooks that he didn't get to fish much. Bob was busy baiting hooks and taking off fish. Pam(Bob's wife) got to baiting the hooks so Bob got to fish more than Matt. I even baited hooks to help Jennifer.
Phil(youngest son) took two 5 gallon buckets down to the pond to put the fish in. After awhile there were to many for them so I told Phil to go get my big tub that I put weeds in when I am working in my flower beds. Matt put the fish in the tub and he and Robbie brought it to the house so Matt could clean the fish.

This was the first time that GB and I had any of the fish from the pond. We like to fish but GB doesn't like to clean them.
Faye aka Mrs GB

I would like to apologize to Heather and Bradley. Heather cooked the fish, hushpuppies, shirmp and corn. We wouldn't have had a fish fry without her.

Families need time like that, brings everyone closer together. I have a nice pond, small, and sorry to say I haven't fished it in 2 years. Theres an albino catfish we named albert, might be an alberta, never checked. Last time it was caught it was 27 in long and weighed 8 1/2 lbs. Thanks for sharing. Charlie.  ;D ;D

The story brings to mind a vacation we took in Cherokee, NC, when our girls were little.  We went to a trout farm and I did not catch a thing because I was "baiting" the hooks.  They used pellets that were soft enough to put on a hook.  We all had a ball, and then went back to the cabin we had rented and had a feast.  Thanks for bringing up the memory.

We had a great time and I wanted to share with everyone.
Bob and Matt baiting the hooks and taking the fish off reminded me of when they were small and GB had to bait mine and their hooks plus take our fish off. He was so busy that he didn't get to fish much either.

What a great day!  Nice to read about the important things in life and good memories.  Don't we all focus and argue about other things too much?  Thanks for sharing.  Family, fishing, food....   :)

Matt and Heather brought their Fry Daddy to cook in. Heather cooked fish, hushpuppies and boiled some corn. As well as cooked some shirmp for Blake. Pam(Bob's wife)use our kitchen kettle and cooked the french fries.
Matt filleted some of the fish but not GB's. He didn't want his filleted but he did eat some of the filleted ones.

Oh yesterday was wonderful!  I really enjoyed fishing with the boys.  It was a bit nerve racking at times like when Wyatt (2) escaped and ran to the blue berry orchard and when Bradley (4) fell in the lake (thankfully in the ONLY shallow part), and when Evan (6) got a hold of GB's Bushnell binoculars, but all in all it was a blessing of a day.  It was so nice to have all of the kids together.  Our lives are so busy we often don't get a chance to cross paths.

The kids talked about how much fun they had fishing, riding the four wheeler, and rolling down the hills all the way home.  They wanted to go back tomorrow! :) When we got home they were so tired.  They took baths and went straight to bed with no fuss.  I wasn't too far behind them.  It was definitely one of those days were fond memories were made.

That's what I like about the South!
Have fond memories of reeling em in at my uncle's farm in Tennessee.
Living in Colorado my kids have not had the opportunity to catch a bream, a sunny, a pumpkin seed or a bass. They are deprived!
Sounds like everyone had a great time.

I guess my invite got lost in the mail. I would have brought the slaw and biscuits lol.  The reality is that it is times like that we all remember for ever, or at least as long as our mind will allow.  It isnt the things my parents bought me, it is what they did for me and with me.  Great post Mrs. GB. It sure brought back memories of my younger days at camp with family.

Read this yesterday and it brought a tear to my eye. My family had many dove, deer, fish, frog, crawfish, coon, mater, tater, corn, ect cooking that makes a lifetime of memories. Home, family and friends. What else can be said?

My Dad said over 40 years ago that people just don't take the time to live. Whole families would go to the river after church when he was a kid. Men would fish, some would get a fire going and the ladies would clean the fish and cook. He said they always had extra to take home, they would stay all day, and got nap time too. For my family Sunday has always been family day, not so much anymore with all the kids gone. Enjoy your time together while yoy can. MAKE TIME, even if you don't have time, do it anyway. Charlie.  ;D ;D
