Scored on a 99E
« on: August 19, 2009, 01:55:54 AM »
I have always loved the Savage 99. I have old photos of my grandfather hunting with one out west in the 40's. That .300 rifle was stocked with a beautiful Fajen figured walnut, with a left hand cheek piece. After my uncles death I learned that all his gun collection including the 99 had been given away to his (new friend) during his last days, while suffering from dementia. Anyway, while looking for it I found a late model 99E series A .308 cal., in great shape at a good price. I would have preferred the old one from my family but, oh well. This gun has pressed checkering, lever safety, 22 in barrel, and serial #c430xxx. I'm guessing its a 1977 up, anyone know for sure?

I would say any savage 99 in good shape is a good investment . Some models probably will be worth more than others . Left unaltered and properly cared for you will have years of service , then again it should retain it's value.

I still cant believe this, I located and purchased the families 99 I had been looking for. I was checking an auction site for a nicer stock for the 99e and there it was. I put in a bid and won it. It should be in Monday. The gun had somehow made it from Missouri to West Virginia then to New York.

congrats on locating the family heirloom....a wonderful story. Right now I own 5 rifles. One belonged to my grandfather...he gave it to me when i was 12 years old and i killed a 5 pt Penna whitetail with it the same day. Another rifle was given to me by my father in law...before that it belonged to my wife's grandfather. When i handle these guns in my mind i am back in the woods with those guys....a good place to be with some darn fine folks.....congrats on finding that rifle......Mike
